lfMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTER-FASTENINGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1$ 99 dated December 17, 1872.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, SAMUEL Mower, of WVomelsdorf, in the county of Berks, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blind-Fastenin g 5 and do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

[llhe nature of myinvention consists in a lever pivoted. to the window-frame below the shutter, nd held by a ratchet-bar to form a fastener 0 stay-back for the shutter, as will be herein fter more fully set forth.

In or er to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention.

A represents the window-frame, to which the shutters or blinds B B are hinged in the usual manner. On the outside of the frame below each shutter is pivoted a lever, G, the pivot being nearly on a line with the hinges of the shutter. The inner end of the lever (3 works on a vertical ratchetbar, D, and the outer end is curved upward, as shown, to hold the shutter open. I

By setting the lever G in the lowest notch on the ratchet-bar D it will hold the shutter close to the side of the house, so that no storm will affect it, and the shutter cannot rattle and make any noise, neither can it fly loose. By setting the lever in the next to the last notch, it will hold the shutter sufficiently tight for calm weather.

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
