IMPROVEMENT IN BED-LOUNGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,992, dated December 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL KENNEDY, of the city and county of Allegheny and State Improved My invention consists of a lounge provided r Witha large hollow arm or reclining support, 7 which is hinged to the end and closes down on the mattress to conceal the pillows, but swings over from the mattress to make room for the head of the bed, when used as such; all as [hereinafter described.

These parts of a sofa-bedstead are old and well known to the public. The recliningrest N is hollow, open at the bottom, and hinged to the end of the frame at 0 so as to swing over to the position represented in dotted lines P, out of the way when the lounge is to be turned into the bed. It rests on the bracket Q when so adjusted. When the lounge is folded up for use as such the rest N swings back upon the cushions at that end and incloses the pillows R in its hollow space. The head-board S is connected to the side board F, and the head of the back-frame is detachable, and is taken 0E and placed between the two parts of the mattress when not in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I The hollow-hinged rest N applied to sofabedsteads, substantially as and for the purpose described.
