To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AxEL A. NnLsoN, of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cord-Cutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive cord or twine cutter which may readily be secured to a store counter or other fixture so as to be easily accessible for severing the cord tied to a package from the supply, and one which will prevent cutting of the fingers in use or in accidental contact with the device.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing my improved device attached to a counter. Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and Fig. 3 a bottom plan. Fig, 4 is a view in perspective of the parts of my cutter in detached position.

Referring to the drawing, 1 is a support comprising a body portion 2 and end portions 3, 41: which are bent at right angles to the portion 2. The extremity of each of the ends is bent outwardly, as indicated at 5 to provide a surface for securing the support to a fixture, as by screws 6. The end 3 is of less length than the end 4: and consequently the body 2 will occupy an inclined position to whatever flat surface the support is at tached.

A slot 10 extends longitudinally throughout the greater portion of the down; into the portion 4. Located beneath the body 2 and extending over a part of the slot are a pair of cutting blades 12. Preferably each of these blades .is of approximately L-shape, the longer leg having one edge which parallels the longitudinal edge of the body portion 2, its other longitudinal edge being inclined thereto so as to cooperate with the similarly formed edge of its complementary blade to form a V-shape cutting instrumentality. The blades are fastened to the support preferably by means of nutted bolts 13 and their rigidity is insured by the overlapping of the lower ends of the blades, the edge of each abutting the bent portion 3. The blades are accordingly firmly held in position. It will be observed that the arrangement of the slot in the support and the blades beneath it is such that body 2 and there is no likelihood of contact between the blades and the hand of one using the cutter.

In the use of my improved device, that portion of a cord to be severed is passed into the slot of the support and drawn into.

the bite of the blades. By reason of the inclination of the support there is a gradually increasing tension on the cord between the fingers holding it and the cutting blades which effects a quick severance as the hand is moved over the support. This formation of the support obviates the necessity of gripping the cord on each side of the cutting element.

I claim as my invention:

1. A cord cutter including an inclined supporting member formed from a single piece of material and having a longitudinally extending slot, and horizontally disposed cutting blades secured to the underside of said support and extending in convergent lines across said slot.

2. A cord cutter including a support having a body portion and angularly disposed end portions, one of said end portions being of less length than the other, said body portion and the longer end portion having a slot formed therein, and blades supported on the undersurface of said body portion adjacent the edges of said slot.

3. A cord cutter including a support having a body portion and angularly disposed end portions, one of said end portions being of less length than the other, said body portion and the longer end portion having a slot formed therein, and converging blades supported on the undersurface of said body portion adjacent the edges of said slot, said convergence being toward the shorter of said end portions.

4. A cord cutter including a support having a body portion and angularly disposed end portions, one of said end portions being of less length than the other, said body portion and the longer end portion having a slot formed therein, and converging blades supported on the undersurface of said body portion adjacent the edges of said slot, said convergence being toward the shorter of said end portions, eachof said blades having its lower edge bearing against the angularly disposed short end of said body portion.
