CUTTING DEVICE.

Be it known that I, IDA S. FREEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cutting Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
.This invention relates to a cutting device, and the object of the invention is the construction of a simple and efficient device preferably to be worn on the finger of the operator, which will efficiently cut or sever a string, or cord, or the like.
With this and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novelcombinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my cutting device.
Figure 2 is a transverse, sectional view of the cutting device.
Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken on line 3-3, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is another embodiment of the cutting device.
Figure 5 is still anotherembodiment of the cutting device showing the blade formed from the body of the ring, while Figure 6 is a transverse, sectional view of the same.
Figure 7 is a sectional view, taken on line 7-7, Fig. 3, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings by numerals l designates a split ring body having its ends overlapping (Figs. 2 and 6). Integral with the body is a plate 2, which plate is curved in cross section to conform to the shape of the finger, as illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 1. A straight knife 3 is secured to the top of plate 2 and this knife is provided with an inclined cutting edge 4., and a straight, rear end 5. A spring guide and guard 6 has its rear end 7 bearin snugly against the rear end 5, of knife 3, and the feet 8 of guard 6 are secured by solder 9 against the to of the knife, so that the Serial No. 601,025.
guard and guide 6 is securely fastened by the solder 9, and knife 3 in position upon the plate 2.
The guard and guide 6 is preferably formed of springy wire with portions bent together so that the cutting edge 4:, of the knife 3, registers with the space between the parallel portions of the guard, as clearly shown in Fig. 2; as there are two portions to the guard and guide, there are consequently two feet 8 (Figs. 3 and 7).
In Fig. 4 I have shown the guard 6, secured tightly against therear end of the knife 3, and held in place by a detachable screw 10.
In Figs. 5 and 6 I have shown a singlepiece structure wherein the plate 2 is formed from the same piec as the body 1, with the knife 3 cut or struck up from the plate The guard 6 can be placed over the knife 3 in the same manner as it is placed over the knife 3, in the embodiments shown in Figs. 1 to 4.
While I have described the preferred embodiments of my invention, and have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the eX- tensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
As a new article of manufacture, a cutting device comprising a split ring body, a plate secured to said body and having a tongue out therefrom and bent upwardly to provide a knife integral with said plate and provided with an inclined cutting edge and with a straight back, a guard and guide overhanging the cutting edge of said knife and extending the full height of and bear ing snugly against the back of the knife, said guard and guide provided with feet against th plate, and fastening means engaging said feet and securing the guard and guide against displacement from engagement at all times with the back of the knife, substantially as shown and described.
