UNITED STATES ABRAM DEHUFF, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,953, dated November 12, 1872.

Be it known that I, ABRAM DEHUFF, of.
York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Washing-Machines, of which the'following is a specification;
My improvement relates to the employment of rollers or rotating cylinders, combined with fixed inclined or beveled strips, on the opposite surfaces of the wash-boards. These'are so arranged on the wash-boards that when a reciprocal motion is given the latter the articles to be washed are first subjected to the washing or rubbing process, and afterward discharged from the contact of the rubbing-surfaces and delivered automatically at the end of the two wash-boards.
Figure l is a top view of the machine; Fig. 2 is a side view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line :0 00 of Fig. 1.
A is the box or receptacle for the clothes. B is the upper, and G the lower, wash-boards. D D are the connecting rods or pitmen, by which motion is communicated, through cranks e e and crank-shafts E E, to the wash-boards.
To the lower wash-board are attached the rollparts.

I claim- The combination of the rollers a a a of the lower wash-board G and the fixed bars ff and inclined strips 0 0'0 with the upper wash-board B provided with the inclined strips (1 d, in the manner and for the purposes hereinbefore de scribed.
