ifi zrzsses @EM QW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CARL J'. ECKERT AND PHILIP J'. RICHMAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 1920.
Application filed November 2, 1918. Serial No. 260,826.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CARL J. EcKER'r and PHILIP J. RIQHMAN, citizens of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Waterproof Combination Cigarette, Match, and Coin Case, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a waterproof combination cigarette, match and coin case for use by bathers and others subject to complete drenching.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective side view of our holder, and Fig. 2 is a. sectional view of our holder in the plane indicated by line 2-2 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, to a threaded ring 10 there is attached, preferably by being cemented thereto, the upper end of arubber bag 12 in such a way that the thread ed opening in ring 10 constitutes the only opening into bag 12. To the lower end 13 of bag 12 there is attached, preferably by cementing, a rubber lap 14, preferably provided with a reinforced eyelet 15. Into ring 10' is entered screwtop 17 provided with corrugated flange 18, below which there is placed over top 17 washer 19, for the purpose of providing an absolutely airtight closure between ring 10 and flange 18, when top 17 is screwed down tight. Top 17 is provided on its upper surface with boss 20, preferably having eyelet 21, and is also provided with an interior chamber 22, adapted to be closed by plug 23 which is threaded from below into chamber 22 and which is provided with handle 24. Bag 12 is made of such size that it will conveniently hold a number of cigarettes, and also matches for lighting; and chamber 22 is made of such size that it will conveniently hold at least a number of dimes. The corrugated edge of flange 18 not only facilitates the unscrewing of top 17 but also forms a convenient surface on which to strike matches. Openings 15 and 21 are provided for the purpose of attaching our case to the body or clothes of the bather through the medium of strings, safety pins or other means.
It is manifest that our device may be changed in many details without departing from the essentials of our invention. All such changes we intend to cover.
We claim 1. A combination cigarette, match and coin case comprising a waterproof bag attached at one end to a threaded ring forming the only opening into the bag, and provided at the other end with a perforated lap; a flanged screw-top provided at 1ts upper end with a perforated boss. threaded into the ring so as to form a closure for the opening into the bag, and forming a COlIl chamber opening into the interior of the bag; a suitable closure for such coin chamber; and awasher interposed between the threaded ring and the flange of the screwtop; substantially as, and for the purpose described.
.the opening into the bag, and forming a coin chamber opening into the interior of the bag; a suitable closure for such coin chamber; and a washer interposed between the threaded 'ring and the flange of the screw-top; substantially as, and for the purpose described.
CARL J. ECKERT. PHILIP J. RICHMAN.
