To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DE FoREsT I-IULBURD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrist-Watch Cases and Clamps, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the figures of reference marked thereon.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in wrist watch case and clamp.

The object of my invention is to provide a case for a wrist watch having strap clamping or holding means thereby enabling the use of a perfectly plain piece of strap of leather, cloth or other material without it being necessary to sew or fix a buckle on the end of the strap or without sewing or forming loops in the strap or in any way having to manipulate the strap itself other than to roughly form it into shape whereby the same may be readily replaced when broken.

Another object of my invention is to provide a case for a wrist watch, in which the attaching strap forms a guard to prevent the watch case from coming into contact with the arm.

Referring now to the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan View of my improved wrist watch case and clamp;

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, showing the strap in its position when applied to the wrist; and

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the clamp.

Applicant is aware that wrist watches have been formed with ears on opposite edges for the reception of attaching strap, but in all such watches, it has been necessary to have a buckle or a clamp of some sort fastened to the end of the strap. In such a structure when the strap breaks, it is necessary in replacing it to sew or otherwise fasten one end of the strap to the watch case and secure the buckle or clamp to the other end of the strap.

In my device a perfectly plain piece of strap is used and, therefore, can be made and attached by anyone without the use of instrumentsother than scissors'or a knife for properlv shaping the strap.

Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents the watch case, which is of the usual form. It has 011 opposite edges the ears 2 and 3. The ear 2 is provided with a clownwardly turned outer end 4 extending at an obtuse angle and the lower end extending below the plane of the lower face of the watch case. Said oblique portion has an elongated transverse opening 5. The ear 3 is provided with a downwardly turned outer end 6, having a slot 7, which is of a length considerably greater than the opening 5 in the ear 2. The ends of the downwardly turned portion 6 are thickened, as indicated at 8, and in them is pivotally mounted the clamp 9 which firmly holds the strap when passed through the slot 7 as fully shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

The attaching strap comprises a rounded enlarged portion 10, of a size and shape slightly greater than the watch case, to form a guard to prevent the case from coming into direct contact with the wrist. The strap portion 11 passes outwardly through the slot or opening 5 and around the wrist, the enlarged body portion preventing the strap from slipping through the opening 5. The end of the strap is then passed through the slot 7 from the inside and the clamping member swung down on the strap and the same is prevented from being withdrawn from the slot and the watch case firmly held upon the wrist.

WVhile I have shown and described a pivoted clamping member for locking the free end of the strap to the case, it will be un derstood that the same could be varied and any form of holding means employed with out departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A wrist watch holder comprising a case, an outwardly extending ear carried by one edge of the Watch case having an obliquely extending outer end provided with a slot, an ear carried by the opposite edge of the case and having an obliquely extending outer end, a clamp in said obliquely extending end, and an attaching strap having an enlarged portion forming a guard for the lower face of the case and having a strap portion passing through the slot in the ear and adapted to be passedthrough the clamp as shown.

2. A wrist watch holder comprising a case having slotted ears, a jaw pivoted within the slot of one of said ears to form opposed clamping jaws, a wrist band passing freely through one of said slotted ears and provided-with an enlarged portion incapable of passing therethrough whereby said band is attached to said ear, the free end of said band being adapted to pass between the jaws of said other ear and to be adjustably clamped thereto.

A wrist watch holder comprising a casing provided with an apertured means, and a band fastening means, a wrist band adapted to pass freely through said apertured means and provided with an enlarged portion substantially covering the back of said casing and incapable of passing through said apertured means, the free end of said band being adjustably secured to said casing by said fastening means.

4. A wrist watch holder comprising a casing provided with apertured means and a substantially opposed band securing means, a wrist band adapted to pass freely through said apertured means and provided with an enlarged portion incapable of passing through said aperture whereby said band is fastened to said casing, the free end of said band being adjustably secured to said casing by said band securing means.

5. A wrist watch holder comprising a casing provided with opposed ears, one of said ears being slotted, a Wrist band adapted to pass freely through said slot and provided with an enlarged portion incapable of pass ing therethrough whereby said band is attached to said ear, said second ear being provided with a fastening device to receive the free end of said band and hold the same in adjusted position.
