TINITED STATES PATENT SAFETY ATTACHMENT FOR WATCH-FOBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17, 1905.
Application filed April 29, 1905. Serial No. 258,111-
To all whom it nutg concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR. Gr. DOANE, a citizen of the United States, residing at N orthampton, in the county of Hampshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Attachments for VVatch-Fobs; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for preventing watches being withdrawn from pockets; and it consists in the provision of a clasp one end of which is provided with a snap and hook having a shank portion which is made of a resilient material and having pivotally connected thereto a tongue to which a chain is adapted to be fastened and which is so mounted that the inner end of said tongue may clamp the edge of a pocket securely against the yielding shank portion of the snap-hook.
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and in arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying'drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which- Figure l is a sectional view showing my device as applied to a pocket. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the device, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a snaphook of the usual construction employed upon watch-chains and to which a watch is adapted to be connected. The shank portion of'said hook is provided with arms A, made preferably of resilient material. Said arms A are bent hook-shaped and provided with eyes B C is a pin pivotally mounted in said eyes, and D designates a tongue having an aperture D therein, whereby said tongue may be pivotally mounted upon said pin, and the outer end of said tongue is connected to a ring E, to which a watchchain is adapted to be connected. The inner end of said tongue, which is slightly curved, projects beyond the pivotal point and is adapted to bear against the inner face of the shank portion of the snap-hook and cause the arms carrying the pin to yield slightly to allow the hook to securely clamp the pocket in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. After the inner end of the tongue assumes the position shown in the drawings in Fig. l the ends of said arms, which have been sprung outward to allow the pocket to be clamped, will return to their normal positions, and the device will be securely fastened in place, thus affording a simple and eflicient means whereby a watch may be held within a'pocket and making it quite impossible for a person to withdraw the watch by a violent pull upon the chain.
-Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device for holding'watohes in pockets comprising a snap-hook having a shank portion with arms which are curved and resilient, eyes at the ends of said arms, a tongue pivotally connected to said arms and having an end adapted to bear against the shank portion of the hook to cause the arms to yield, and a ring attached to said tongue, as set forth.
2. A device for preventing Watches, &c., from being Withdrawn from-pockets comprising a snap-hook having a shank portion with resilient arms which are spaced apart, and curved to formhooks, the ends of said arms having eyes, a pin carried by said eyes, a tongue pivotally mounted upon said pin and having its inner end designed to contact with the shank portion of said hook to cause said arms to yield and affording means to clamp the device to the edge of a pocket, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR G. DOANE.
