his invention relates to an improvement in combs, more particularly adapted to drying, and removing the kinks from hair.
An object of the invention is to provide 'a comb with a row of stationary teeth, and
a row of movable teeth, the movable teethv being arranged in alinement with the stationary teeth and the movable teeth and stationary teeth being alternately arranged; the
said movable and stationary teeth having work engaging faces which are normally spaced apart, and means for causing the movable teeth to be moved toward the stationary teeth, whereby the operating faces of the teeth maybe brought together for treating the hair.
A further object of the -invention is to provide means for heating the teeth, whereby they may be heated during the treatment of the hair or prior tothe treatment.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of (parts which will be hereinafter-described pointed out in the claims. v In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the' invention;

The head 1 of the comb' is preferably made hollow, and is provided with teeth 2, '2 integrally connected thereto, one face of each tooth being rounded as at 3.

the head between the teeth 2, for the reception of movable teeth 5, 'carried by a bar 6. `The teeth 5 are provided with a rounded face 7, the rounded face 7 of the movable teeth 5 and the rounded faces of the stationary teeth 2 are adapted to be brought face to the hair, so that there. is no danger of the hairbeing injured during the treatment.
A tubular member or extension is removably connected to the head 1, and mounted on the extension is a hollow handle 9. A tube or rod 10 is received fin the'handle 9 and extension 8. The bar 6 of the movable teeth 5, is provided with two ears 1 1, provided with holes through which the tube 10 extends, one of the ears being provided with screw threads which enga e the screwthreads 12 on the tube 10 for astening the movable toothed bar 6 to the tube.' The tube is closed at its. outer end, and projects through an opening 13 in the end `of the head for guiding the same in its movements. A spring 14 surrounds the tube,l and is located between' the innermost ear 11 of the toothed bar 6 and the inner end of the head 1, for normally forcing the movable teeth out of engagement with the stationary teeth, that is, the working or rounded faces of the teeth of the movable and stationary teeth from engagement when the comb is notI in use.

Located at the forward end of the handle 9 is anl operating or finger lever 16, which is connected to a bar 17, extending parallel with the tube 10, and into a recess 18 in the handle. A right angular extension 19 is formed on the bar and is provided with an opening through which the tube 10 extends, the extension 19 being adapted to engage a collar or shoulder 20 formed on the tube 10 for reciprocating the tube, for causing the teeth to be brought into engagement with the stationary teeth 2, as the finger lever'is drawn rearwardly.
A cover 21 is slidably fitted in the top of The tube 10 is provided with openingsA provi ed at thethe head l, and is provided with openings 22 for the discharge of the products o combustion. Holes 23 are formed in the side Walls of the head l to admit air to assist in the combustion'of the gas.
In Figs. 'i' and '8, an electric heating coil 24 is shown fitted within the head 1, and to which a socket 25 is connected by a cord 26. The coil is preferably proportioned so as to prevent overheating.
When the comb is to be used, it is either attached to a gas supply,`or an electric supply, and the teeth heated, and after the teeth have become sufficiently heated, the gas or electricity may be cut 0E as desired. The comb is now inserted in the hair, and the finger lever 16 is operated causing the rounded or engaging faces of the teeth 2 and 5 to be brought together and engage the hair therebetween, when the comb is drawn outwardly allowing the hair to be drawn between 'the teeth, for dryingl and straighten-` ing the hair. This operation is simple and can be repeated until the hair is in the condition desired, without danger of breaking the hair. Upon releasing the finger lever 16, the spring 14 will cause the movable teeth 5 to assume their original position.
What I claim as my invention is l. In a comb, the combination of a head having a row of teeth thereon and a row of movable teeth supported on the head, said movable teeth and rst mentioned teeth being alternately arranged, each of said teeth having a rounded face, the rounded faces of the movable teeth bein adapted to cooperate with the rounded aces of the other teeth in treating the hair, and means for operating the movable teeth.

In' a comb, the combination of a head having teeth thereon, a movable bar ro- Vided with a plurality of teeth receive in Lezama the head, said last mentioned teeth adapted to be located in alinement with the teeth of the head, a hollow handle connected to said head, and means slidable in said handle and connected to the movable bar for operating the teeth.

In a comb, the combination of a head having teeth thereon, a movable bar provided with a plurality of teeth received in the head, said last mentioned teeth adapted to be located in alinement with the teeth of the head, a hollow handle connected to said head, means slidable in said handle and connected to the movable bar for operating the teeth, and means carried by the head for heating the teeth. 1
4. In a comb, the combination with a vhead having teeth thereon, a plurality of movable teeth supported on the hgad, and a heatingmember connected to the movable teeth for heating the teeth, and for moving the teeth.
' 5. In a comb, the combination* with a head having teeth thereon, a plurality of movable teeth supported on the head, and a movable heating tube connected to the movable teeth for heating the teeth and for causing the movable teeth to be operated.
6. In a comb, the combination of a hollow head having a row of stationary teeth and slots formed therein between the teeth, a bar provided with a plurality of teeth received in the head, said last mentioned teeth passing through the slots in the head and located in alinement with the teeth of the head, and a heating element removably connected to the bar for heating the teeth on the bar and head, and for moving the teeth of the bar into engagement with the teeth of the head.
