Il IED STATS anna enteren.
GEORGE l. WIGGINT`ONOF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR 'IO` 'KALAMAZOO LOOSE LEAF BINDER CO., OF KALAMAZGO, MICHIGAN. 1
l BINDER DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Spij. 30, ISIS,
Application filed November 29, 1918. Serial No. 264,730.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen P. WiesinaoN, a citizen of theUnited Sta-tes, residing at the city and county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Binder Devices, of which the following is a specification.
rIhis invention relates to improvements in binder devices.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved binder device which facilitates the use of temporary binders or loose sheet holders and loose sheets for accounting purposes.
Second, to provide an improved device which is capable of being quickly adjusted to permit the operator to view both sides of a sheet and also to facilitate the manipulation of the sheets having accounts on both sides.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is an end elevation of my improved binder device adjusted to one position.
Fig. II is an end elevation of my improved binder device adjusted to another position.
Fig. III is a side elevation of my improved binder device adjusted to the position shown in Fig. I.
Fig. IV is an end elevation adjusted to still another position.
Fig. V is a horizontal section on a line corresponding to line 5-5 of Fig. I, the binder and sheets being removed from the holder.
Fig. VI is a detail section through the base and one of the bed members on a line corresponding to line 6 6 of Fig. V, showing the arrangement of the supporting rollers.
Fig. VII is an inside plan viewof one of the binder members with sheets arranged thereon in oii'set relation, the binding members of the binder being shown in section.
parts and is preferably a circular plate of wood. The binder comprises a pair of binder members 2 having binding members 3 extending between the same with which the notches 4 of the sheets 5 may he engaged. The binder illustrated is that shown in my Patent No. 1,174,458, dated March 7, 1916, and therefore further or detailed description as to its structure is unnecessary.
I provide a holder comprising a pair of spaced bed members 6 having inwardly inclined ends 7 constituting rests for the side members 8 of the holder when they are collapsed. The bottom member 9 is mounted on the bed member 6 between the rests. The side members 8 are hinged to the bottom member at 10 so that they may be collapsible, upon the rests as shown in Fig. II or swung to an erected position as shown in Figs. I and III.
The side members are independently adjustable so that one may be adjusted to rest upon its rests?, while the other is supported in erected position as shown in Fig. IV. The side members are supported in their erected position by the collapsible braces or struts 11 formed of links pivoted to each other at 12, to the side members at 13, and to the bed members at 14. On the under side of the bottom I mount a pivot block 15 for the vertical pivot 16, thus providing a swivel support for the holder.
To sustain the considerable weight which the holder is frequently called upon to carry and permit its easy adjustment I provide the carrying rollers 17 which are journaled in the under sides of the bed members 6 radially of the pivot so that they travel upon the base 1. With this arrangement of parts the holder may be swung on its swivel or pivot to bring either side of the sheets to the view of the operator, which is of great advantage, particularly in machine accounting. The sheets, where formed, as shown in Fig. VII, with a plurality of notches, may
