COLLAR-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 23, 1919.
Application filed February 21, 1919. Serial N 0. 278,536.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHARLEs O. BLOOM- QUIST, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'W'attis, in the county of Carbon and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in collar buttons and aims to provide a device constructed from a single piece of spring wire which is especially designed for use in the back of the neck band of a shirt, although it may also be used at the front of the neck band.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily inserted within the button hole of the neck band in a manner to equip the band and be held against accidental removal.
Another object is the provision of a device which may be easily inserted in the button hole of a collar without tearing or injuring the fabric and which, owing to its novel construction will remain in position so as to prevent the collar from becoming loose.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation showing the button in position with the neck band of a shirt, a fragmentary portion of the shirt being shown.
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the button detached and Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The neck band of the shirt is indicated at 10 and the button hole at 11.
The collar button is preferably constructed from a single strand of spring wire and is substantially M-shaped, the wire being coiled at the lower end of the central portion of the M as indicated at 13 through movement coils of greater thickness than the width of the button, this coil being adapted to pass through the button hole in the neck band of the shirt and even through the button hole on the collar, the enlargement thus provided preventing the accidental slipping of the button through th button hole. Extending from the coil 13 are divergent spring arms 14 which are adapted to bear against each end of the button hole, so as to grip the neck band and hold the button securely in position therein. This formation of the arm 14 not only provides a grip which bears against the ends of the button hole, but also enables the button to automatically adjust itself to holes of different sizes.
Extending from the arms 14 and in opposite direction thereto, are divergent sprin members 15, which are adapted to lie behind the neck band of the shirt and together with the arms 14 grip the material of the neck band. The members .15 are provided with inwardly turned extremities 16 so as to provide a finish for the end of said members.
The invention is susceptible of changes in form, proportions, in minor details and construction and the right is here reserved to make changes to properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention I claim 1. A collar button formed from a single strand of spring metal and including a central coil, outwardly diverging spring arms extending from said coil and oppositely extending outwardly divergent spring terminal members formed on said arms.
2. A collar button formed from a single strand of spring metal and bent into substantially M shape, an enlargement located at the base of the central portion of the M and upwardly extending terminal portions projecting inwardly from each of the ends of the said M.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES O. BLOOMQUIST.
