.To @ZZ whom it' may concer-m l Be it known that I, WALLACE EDWARD JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in garment supporters, and particularly to that class employed for supporting hose.

The objects of my invention are to produce a device that is preferably constructed of round wire, and therefore incapable of cutting or injuring the fabric with which it is connected; which is easy to manufacture; and simple in its formation and readily applied and detached to and from the hose; and when in position will not tear out or injure the hose; and will be secure under all circumstances.

With these and other objects in view my invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawingsz-Figure 1 is a perspective View of the upper portion of a stocking or hose showing my invention appliedto the usual suspension tapes, and in position upon the hose. Fig. 2 is a detail of the locking member of the device; Fig. 3, a similar View of the receiving member; Fig. 4t, a cross-section on the line -x of Fig. 3; Fig. 5, a detail of a modified form of receiving member.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures ot' the drawings.

It is my intention in the manufacture of this device to construct the same wholly of round spring wire, in that I thereby avoid any sharp edges that can in any way mar or cut the stocking, and as before stated I am enabled, as will hereinafter appear, to readily produce the parts composing the invention, rendering the same capable of manufacture at a slight cost.

I employ what I term a lockingsmember 1, and a receiving member 2, and I willproceed to detail the construction of each.

ing 5. Beyond this elliptical eye or opening 5 the terminals recontact and after extending a short distance to form a shank 6 they are 6 abruptly diverged and bent to form the transverse loop or eye 7, which is attached to one terminal of the tape-support 8 shown in Fig. 1.

'Ihe receiving member,like its companion,

is in the preferred form, produced from a 7o single blank or piece of wire of proper length, the same having its center part bent around the shank 9 of a cylindrically headed stud 10, the head of said stud being rounded and circular as shown. By bending the blank around the shank 9 I produce at the middle of the wire an eye 11. The terminals 12 formed by thus4 bending the blank, extend parallel to each other a distance to form a shank 13 of proper length, and thence are abruptly diverged and bent to form a transverse loop or eye la which receives the lower end of the companion tape-support 8, shown in Fig. 1.

If preferred, the terminals 6 of the locking member 1, and the terminals 12 of the receiving member 2 may each be encompassed or inclosed by a sheet metal sleeve or clip 15 whereby said terminals are prevented from spreading, and wire of small gage maybe ernployed without danger of the parts becoming separated by reason of the strain to which they are subjected.

I may, without sacrificing some of the ad- Vantages of my invention, construct the receiving member of sheet metal. I lhave illustrated in Fig. 5, wherein 16 designates a sheet metal shank whose upper end is widened and provided with a slot or loop 17 to engage with the tape support, and whose lower end is enlarged to form a disk-like head rec 18. This head has set therein in any suitable manner a headed stud 19. This moditied form of receiving member coacts with the locking member in the same manner as Such form does the form illustrated in Fig. 2, and in a manner that I will now describe.

In operation the receiving member is inserted between the leg` of the wearer and the stocking and pressed outwardly against the latter, after Which the locking member being grasped by the other hand of the operator and slightly turned may be sprung over the headed stud l1, the fabric of the stocking being caught between the two and covering the headed-stud, thus giving the appearance of a cloth covered button. The loop or eye 5 which engages the stud ll is slightly less in width than the diameter of the head ot the stud 1l, and hence can only be engaged with it by a partial turning or tilting ot the locking member, and such position can only be given to thelocking member by hand. Hence when a connection is once made it is impossible for any accidental disconnection to take place, and such disconnection can only take place by the tilting or turning described. This device, it will be seen, does not rely upon the strain of the tapes S for maintaining it in position, and it cannot become disconnected no matter how loose the tapes may get.

I do not limit my invention to the precise details of construction herein shown and described and as illustrated. Such slight changes may be made as are Within the knowledge and skill ofthe mechanic Without sacricing the advantages of or departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim isl. The herein described garment supporter, the same consisting of the receiving and locking members each being formed of a single piece of round Wire, the receiving member having the blank ot Wire from which it is formed bent at its center, and having seated therein the headed stud lO and beyond the same having its terminals 12 extended to form the shank 13, and beyond the same laterally disposed to produce the loop 14, and the locking member having the blank from which it is formed bent at its center at 3, and its terminals t continued in contact a short distance, diverged and reconverged to produce an elliptical loop or eye 5 of less Width than the diameter of the headed stud 10, and beyond said eye or loop extended to form the shank 6, and finali)T laterally bent to form the loop 7, substantially as specified.

The herein described garment supporter, the same consisting ot the receiving and locking members each being formed of a single piece of round Wire, the receiving member having the blank of wire from which it is formed bent at its center, and having seated therein the headed stud l() and beyond the same having its terminals l2 extended to form the shank 13, and beyond the saine laterally disposed to produce the loop 14, and the locking member having the blank from which it is formed bent at its center at 3, and its terminals 4 continued in contact a short distance, diverged and reconverged to produce an elliptical loop or eye 5 of less Width than the diameter of the headed stud lO, and beyond said eye or loop extended to form the shank 6, and finally laterally bent to form the loop 7, and the sheet metal clips l5 embracing the terminals 12 of the receiving member, and the terminals 6 ot the locking member, substantially as specified.
