Missouri, -have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incubators,.of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in incubators and the primary object is to provide an improved incubator egg tray designed to receive the eggs so that they may be held in position-for permittm them to be rotated and to be readily place in or taken from the tray.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel, details of construction and arrangement ofparts which will be more clearly understood from the following description .and' drawing, in

In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates one end of the incubator, 2 the top, and 3 the sides thereof, one side being provided with an opening which is closed by means of a double walled door 4 hingedly connected at 5. The door 4 is provided with an elongatedopening which receives a door 6 having a glass insert, andsaid door 6 is hinged at 7 and locked by means of a spring catch indicated generally at 8.. This door 6 1s for the purpose as will be presently described;
, A lamp 9 is connected to the end '1 and a water jacket 10 surrounds the chimney of the lamp. Water pipes 11 extend along the inner surface of the sides 3 and are connected at each end by'means of cross pipes 12 and 13. The pipe'12 has a vertical pipe 14 connected thereto and said vertical pipe has a right angled extension 15 adapted to extend between and parallel with the pipes 11. The cross pipe 13 has two horizontal pipes 16 connected thereto and communicating therewith and each of these horizontal pipes is provided with a vertical extension 17. The end of the pipe 15 as well as the right angled extensions 17 of the. pipes 16 are adapted to enter the water acket 10 as illustrated in.the drawings and when the wateris heated'by means of the lamp it will circulate through the various pipes.
By constructing the circulating pipes in the manner as described and illustrated there will be a uniform flow of heated water whereby the interior of the incubator will i be uniformly heatedQ A post 19 is connected to the top of the incubator and a horizontally extending rod 20. is pivotally connected to'the post at 21.
One end of the'rod is provided with the I screw threads as indicated at 22 and the opposite end of the rod is forked as indi cated at 23 and has a vertically extending rod 24 pivotally connected thereto, and provided on the lower end with a damper plate 25 adapted to rest over the central opening in the water jacket 10. A weight 26 is adjustable on the threads 22 of the rod 20 for balancing the rod. A post 27 is also secured I to the top of the incubator. intermediate the .post. 19- and end of the incubator and has a rod 28 pivotally connected to the top thereof and said rod 28 .is forked on one end as I indicated at 29 and the opposite end is provided with a threaded opening to receive the threaded bolt 30. The forked end 29 is adapted to straddle the rod'20 for the purpose as will be'presently described. A coiled spring .31 is connected to "the threaded bolt 30 and to the top of the incubator and tension of said spring may be adjusted by regulating the threaded bolt. A battery boxv 32 is held upon the'top of the incubator and and a wire'also connects the twobatteries for completing the circuit. 'A rod 38 is connected to the horizontal rod 20, between the post 19 and weight 26, and passes through the top of the incubator and carries the usual thermostatic wafers which rest in the incubator and are operated by the change of temperature within the incubator.
On the interior of the incubator I provide receives the batteries 33 therein and bells or I other suitable alarms34 are connected to the preferably adjacent the top of'the door 4 to the end plates 40, as more particularly be understood that the side plates 39 on that side of the incubator having the door 4 will be provided with an opening to receive the double walled door. Cleats 41 are secured illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings, and an egg tray 42 is adapted to be received on the cleats 41 and supported thereby. The bottom of the tray is preferably formed of wire gauze indicated at 43 whereby the air may circulate through the tray. A plurality of egg receiving, containers are rotatably mounted in the tray and one end of these containers comprises a triangularplate 44 and the opposite end comprises a gear wheel 45. Rods 46 are permanently connected to the plates 44 and gear wheels 45 and a rod 47 is hingedly connected to the plate 44 and provided with a hook on the opposite end indicated at 48 and adapted to engage in a perforated lug 49- formed on the gear 45. The gears 45 are provided with axles 50 and the plates 44 are provided with similar axles 51. The axles 50 and 51 are journaled in the sides of the egg tray 42 and when in position therein the gears 45 of the several egg retaining members will mesh as more particularly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings. A shaft 52 is connected to one ofthe end gears 45 and extends through one of the side plates 39 and the door 4 and has a handle 53 secured thereto. The purpose of this handle will be presently described.
Having fully described the detail construction of my device it is though that the advantages and the mode of operation will be clearly understood. When in use the eggs will be placed in the egg retaining members by disengaging the hook 48 from the lug 49 and raising the rod 47. The eggs will be'placed in the members by letting them rest upon the bottom rods 46 and when placed in position the rod 47 returns to its original position and the eggs will be securely held. It will be understood that the rod 47 is of such a yieldable character. and
of such a length that the hooked end-will be securely held in the lug in such a manner th-atit will not be disengaged when the retaining members arerotated. If desired I might use a set screw or other suitable securing means for holding the hooked end of the rod in projection; When the containers .are all assembled in the tray 42, as above stated, the gear wheels 45 will mesh-and the door 4' of the incubator will be lowered and the tray placed in the incubator upon the cleats 41. The door is then closed: and the lamps 9 lighted. The water in the water jacket 10 will be heated and circulate through the various water pipes thereby heating the incubator. It is determined as to what degree of heat is desired in the incubator and the weight 26 is adjusted on the rod 20 so as to hold the damper 25 above the opening in the water jacket 10. The set screw 30 is also adjusted to regulate the tension of the spring 31 so that the forked end 29 of the rod 28 will straddle the rod 20 in such a manner as not to engage the rod. If the heat in the incubator should rise the wafers would expand thereby ,raising the rods 38 and weighted end of the rod 20 lowering the rod 24 and damper 25 to cut. ofi the draft in the lamp. When this is done the rod 20 will engage the lower arm ofthe forked end 29 and through means of the various circuit wires the bell 34 will be rung to give an alarm. If the heat in the incu bator should become too low the opposite action will occur and the wafers will contract thereby pulling down on the rod 38 and weighted end of the rod 20 to raise the damper and the rod 20 will then come in contact with the upper arm of the forked end 29 and an alarm will then also be sounded.
When it is desired to turn the eggs the handle 53 is'grasped and the rod 52 rotated and as all of the gears 45 mesh, all of the containers will be rotated at the same time. From the above it will be seen that I have provided an incubator in which the heat is uniformly distributed and that when the heat varies an alarm will be sounded. At the same time I have provided containing devices in which the eggs are securely held and which may be rotated for turning the eggs. One may look through the glass in the door 6 to see the eggs in the tray when desired and by opening the door 6the eggs may be removed or the chickens removed When hatched.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An egg tray for incubators comprising a frame, containers rotatably mounted in,
detachably secured at the other end so as i to permit opening of said container for insertion of eggs into the same, and means for causing simultaneous rotation ofv said containers.
2. In a container for egg trays, a gean adapted to be rotatably mounted in the frame, said gear also being adapted to form an end member for an egg container, a substantially polygonal end :plate positioned in alinementwith said gear, and spaced rods. 1
