KE'Y-R'I NG HOLDER.
. Specification of Letters Patent. Patcgntgfl App, 29, 1919,
aspiration tien-oeto'ber 26, 1918. Serial No. 259,793.
of the invention to provide a device of this general character having 4 novel and improved means whereby the holder is effectively -mounted in applied position.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a' device of this general character including ahook memb'erwith which a key ring or the like is adapted to be engaged together with novel and improved means coacting with said hook member to prevent accidental displacement "of the key ring.
An additional object of theinvention is to provide a device of this general character consisting ofa member provided with garment engaging means and with a hook with which a key ring or the like is adapted to be engaged together with a barrel or sleeve secured in said member and in which is mounted a spring pressed plunger coacting with the hook to prevent accidental displacement of the key ring or the like from the hook.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved key ring holder whereby certain im portant advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to de scribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section of a key ring holder constructed in accordance with an embodi ment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken through my improved holder as herein embodied;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in elevation of the intermediate or body portion of the elongated strip comprised in my improved holder and Fig. 4 is a view in plan of a blank from which the sleeve or barrel as herein employed is formed.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, A denotes an elongated strip of metal having one end provided with a returned tongue 1 whereby the device may be readily engaged with an article of wearing apparel. The opposite end portion of the strip A is returned to afford an inwardly facing hook 2. The hook 2 is arranged at the side of the intermediate or body portion of the side A opposite the tongue 1.
B denotes a sleeve or barrel formed from a sheet of metal or other material and the upper or outerend portion of the sleeve or barrel Bis closed by the head .3.
The barrel or sleeve 13 is preferably formed from a blank a rectangular in form and integrally formed with a marginal portion of said blank is the circular extension b which results in the head 3.
The opposed marginal portions of the blank when formed into the sleeve B are bent to afford the flanges 4 which embrace the opposite longitudinal margins of the intermediate or body portion of the strip A and which fit within the cut-out or recess portions 5 in said strip A whereby the sleeve or barrel B is held against movement longitudinally of the strip A when the barrel or sleeve 13 is in applied position.
Diagonal corners of the blank 64 are provided with the extended points or prongs 6 which are adapted to penetrate an article of clothing when my improved holder is in applied position, and which pointed extensions or prongs 6 serve to maintain my improved holder against accidental displacement.
The lower or inner end of the barrel or sleeve B is open and slidably mounted within said barrel or sleeve B is a plunger P constantly urged toward the free end of the hook 2 and normally maintained in contact therewith through the medium of the expansible member 7 herein disclosed as a conventional coil spring, interposed between the inner end of the plunger P and the head 3 of the barrel or sleeve B. It will be self evident that by this arrangement a key ring or the like engaged with the hook 2 will be effectively maintained thereon so that the possibility of loss is substantially and entirely eliminated. The yielding mounting of the plunger P readily permits the desired application to or removal from the hook 2 of a key ring or the like.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a key ring holder constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change andmodification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof, and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a key ring holder comprising a member provided with engaging means and with a hook, a sleeve secured to the member inwardly of the hook, and a plunger mounted within the sleeve and constantly urged toward the free end of the hook and normally in contact therewith, said member being provided with a recess, and the sleeve being provided with a flange fitting within said recess whereby the sleeve is held against movement longitu dinally of the member.
sleeve and constantly urged toward the free end of the hook and normally in contact therewith.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a key ring holder comprisingamember provided with engaging means and with a hook, said member being also provided with a recess,
and the sleeve being provided with a flange fitting within the recess whereby the sleeve is held against movement longitudinally of the member, said flange being provided with penetrating means for holding the member against displacement when in'appli'ed position, and a plunger mounted within the sleeve and constantly urged toward the free end of the hook and normally in contact therewith.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix'iny signature 1n the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIS. H. MENDELSOHN.
