' Be it known that I, Moses F. CARR, a citizen of the Upited States, and a resident of Newton, in the county of Middlesex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, (whose postoflice address is care of Carr Fastener Company, Cambridge, Massachusetts,) have invented an Improvement in Fasteners, of which the following description, in Vconnection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing 'like parts.

This invention pertains to in stud and socket fasteners. Among` the objects of the invention is to provide a stud and socket fastener wherein the number of parts is reduced t0 a minimum.

ferring to the drawings, I have shown a stud 5, ha a head 6 and a recessed portion or neck 'Ihev preferred form of socket herein shown comprises a casing 8, preferably died from a single piece of metal to .support on all sides jaw means herein shown as jaws 9, 10 formed from a single piece of wire 13. .The casing 8 is preferably died to provide relatively short prongs 14 for holding the outside portions of the spring wire 13 in the casing 8, and to provide the transverse portions 15, 16 to support one side of the jaws 9, 10 while-the other side of the jaws 9, 10 is supported by A, portionsl'?, 18. The center of the front casing 1s died inwardly to provide an aperture and a support 19 to receive and support the head 6 of the stud with the jaw means of the socket engaging the recessed portion of the stud. The preferred form of socket casing is preferably utilized on the same side of the fabric 20 that the stud 5 is located on,thereby rendering it unnecessary to cut the fabric 20 to allow the head of the stud 5 to pass therethrough. To thls end I may, and preferably do, provide a front improvements plate 21, preferably died outwardly at the y center as shown, and preferably providing prongs 22 adapted to pierce the fabric 20 and to be clenched on the back of the casin portion of the socket.

hile I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention, it will be understood .that changes involving substitution, omlsslon, alteration and reversal of parts maybe made without departing from the scope of my invention, which is best defined in the following` claims.

Claims:

1. A socket for stud and socket fasteners having a spring jaw, and a casing therefor formed of a single sheet of metal to support opposite sides of said jaw and to provide Y an extended support for the stud both forwardly and rearwardl of said jaw. `2. A socket. for stu and socket fasteners comprising, in combination, a spring jaw, a

casing therefor formed of a single sheet of metal to provide a support for opposite sides of said jaw, and to provide an extended support for the stud both forwardly and rearwardl of said jaw, said casing and jaw being app ied to the same side of the fabric from whence the stud enters.

3.
