or Jugglers Frames, of which the follow-- ing is a specification.
My invention is a device which I call a cadr or jugglers frame for playing mirthprovoking athletic games and capable of use all the year round. I find that it is of the greatest benefit as a health producer when used a, short time daily.
The device is a very simple construction and as shown in the accompanying drawing, consists of the part shown in Figure 1 in elevation; the detail shown in Fig. 2 and the details in Figs. 3 and 4.
The manner of use of the device, when the weather will permit of its out-door utilization, is to drive two of the stakes a in the ground by the use of the mallet b a suitable distance apart, say from twenty-five to onehundred feet. The bench a is placed five feet beyond one of the stakes and to one side thereof while the second bench is placed in the same relation on the other side of the stake. The device shown in Fig. 1 consists of th parallel bars d connected at top and bottom by cross-bars e and having at the center a handle bar 7''. A pole 9 extends from the lower cross-bar and this has its upper end formed with a kerf h which forms a spring tenon on the upper end which is fitted to the hole in the cross-bar e and by its own elasticity is retained in place requiring no fastening means.
The player uses some object upon the upper cross-bar, either a wooden egg Or a potato or the like or the device may be inverted and a tin cup or pan placed upon the end of the pole when the pole is uppermost. In playing the game one of the players places one foot on one bench when his opponent places his foot upon the other. Each player grasps the handle 7 of his cadre with the right hand and starting at the word both run from one to four times around the two stakes, according to the length of the course. Each player as he gets back to the base hands the cadre to player No. 2 of his team, who with one foot on the bench stands ready to receive it.
Instead of the stakes other means may be used to outline the course. Various rules may be adopted as to the players touching each other or dropping the egg or cup or as to what constitutes fouls.
A cavitv to receive one end of the wooden Egg is bored half way throughthe upper ar.
What I claim is 1. A device for use in athletic games comprising an object holder having parallel bars with pieces at the ends, a central handle between the bars and a supporting pole, substantially as described.
2. In an athletic game, an object holder comprising parallel bars, top and bottom cross pieces, a central handle, a supporting pole, a bench and proper indicating means for the course to be run.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
SYLVESTER N. STEWART.
