Patented Mar. 4,1919. 2 SH ETS SHEET 2- m E. 1 up ATFENT E GEORGE w. ,wEs'r, or FAIRFIELD, IOWA, Assrornon'ro FRAN L. neonampor FAIRFIELD, IOWA.
BRUSH-HOLDER.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, GEORGE N. \VEs'r, a citizen of the United States, residing, at Fairfield, in the county of Jefferson and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. 7
This invention relates to a brush holder, and has for its object the construction of a simple and efiicient brush holder that comprises a minimum number of parts and which is efficient in operation and durable in construction. i
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: 7 Figure 1 is a top plan view of my im proved brush holder, while I Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is on line. 33, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the frame of the holder. I Fig. 5 is a fragmentary, inverted,'perspective view of the sliding plate carried by the frame. v Fig. 6 is a perspective jaw.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary, longitudinal, secview of the pivoted I tional view of the brush holder.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the body of the frame, which is hollow, at 2, forminga socket into which a wooden handle 3 projects, which handle is,
preferably, secured in the socket 2 by means of the rivet 4.
At the forward endof the frame 'is' an inwardly-extending integral hook 5 and between hook 5 and the socket portion 2 is a primary elongated slot 6 and an auxiliary elongated slot 7. The slot 6 is'provided with a widened portion 8 for the purpose herein-' after described, and projecting into the slot 6 is a'horizontal lug 9, which lug 9 is provided with an aperture 10. On each side of slot 6, in advance of the wide portion 8 are parallel ribs or flanges 11. The inner end K V V a transverse sectional view taken Specification of Letters Batent.
' particularly between the lugs of the slot? is closedby an integral trans verse piece 12, Fig. 4.
The sliding plate '13 is provided, at its:
front end, with an integral transversely. positioned jaw 14, which jaw 14 is comparatively wlde and has a pair of gripping lugs or teeth 15 upon its upper and lower edges.
Upon the plate 13 and near its middle, is
a depending inclined lug 16 that extends through slot 7 and. in the front of this lug 16 is formed notch 17 in which notch 17 is seated the eye 18 formed on the outer end of of the plate, and onnits Patented Mar. a, 1919. Application filed May 25,1918. Serial na'zsasev; I
the ends of which tongue extend under the parallel ribs 11, Fig. 3, assisting in holding the slidable plate 13 in an assembled position upon the frame. Above the tongue 21 and socket or grip portion 22, Fig. 7
Near the middle of the sliding plate:13 is formed an aperture 23 through which aperin the plate 13 is formed a thumb-receiving ture 23 extends the bolt 24,which bolt also extends through slot 7 of the frame, as
shown;
Upon tioned a washer 25 and/nut'26, for further securing the sliding plate 13 upon the frame 1. I
The auxiliary jaw 27 is provided with an extension 28having an opening 29, in which opening 29 is positioned the hook 5 of the frame 1. The jaw 27 is provided with an upper and lower set of gripping lugs or teeth 15, the same as the fixed jaw 14.
Brushes having different width blocks 30, (Figs. 1 and 2) can be positioned between the primary jaw 14 and the auxiliary jaw 27,and'the positioning is accomplishedby the operator gripping the handle and causing a finger or thumb to-rest in pushing the sliding plate 13 forwardly upon the frame 1 to allow the placing of the block 30 of the brush between the jaws, and-more 15 of said jaws, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. Then upon the operator disengaging the socket 22 of the sliding plate 13, the spring 19 will draw the sliding plate inwardly, causing the jaws to securely clamp the brush, thereby retainthe inner end of the bolt 24 is posithe socket 22, f
. changes shall fairly fall within'the scope of ing it in its; assembled position upon the. brush holder as long as the operator desires; To removethe brush, all that is necessary is to slidethe plate13 forward, sufficient .manual strain being exerted to overcome the resistance of spring 19, thereby releasingthe brush and permitting the same to be entirely removed from. between the jaws, and then upon manual strain being removed from the sliding plate 13, the spring 19 will :draw the plate 13 inwardly upon the frame, closing the: distance :between the primary and auxthe appended claims.
I claim is: V
