- IRRIGATING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS H. DAILEY,

a citizen of the" United States, residing at lliicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Im- Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an irrigating device which may be employed t'orinternal bathing, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which is especially .adapted for flushing the colon and the vagina when desired, and is so constructed as to enable the weight of the person using the same to be employed in increasing the force with which the fluid is injected into the cavities mentioned.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character in which the bag support is of novel construction to permit its ready connection with or removal from the bowls of closets of the type now in common use.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a handle for the injection points associated with the device which is so constructed as to enable the points to be manipulated while in use to insure a thorough cleansing of the cavities without likelihood of the clothing becoming dampened or soiled.

With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and particularly, pointed. out in the claims.

The preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, although no restriction is necessarily made to the precise details of construction and arrangen'ient shown, as changes. alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a top plan view showing the irrigating device connected with the bowl of a toilet in position to be used for flushing the colon.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the letter A designates the bowl of a toilet of the type now in common use upon which is shown mounted the improved irrigating device designated by the letter B, said bowl A having hingedly connected therewith in the usual manner a seat C.

The improved irrigating device includes a bagsupport 6 which is detachahly connected with the rim of the bowl A by means of spaced clamps 7 and 8 mounted upon the underside of the support 6 to engage the rim of the bowl, as shown, the mounting of the clamps permitting adjustment thereof for the attachment of the support to the various types of closet bowls now in use. i

A bag 9 formed from any suitable flexible material is provided at one end with a ring 10 by means of which the bag may be connected with the-support, and at its other end with a reduced neck in which is removably secured a stopper 12 having connected therewith an end of a hose 13 provided with the usual clasp 1% forcontrolling the passage A bar or handle 15, which is of greater length than the diameter of the bowl A of the toilet and adapted to rest thereon in a plane parallel to the bag formed therein spaced and threaded openings 16 and 17, the opening 17 being arranged adjacent .one end of the handle 15, while the opening 16 is formed in the medial portion of the handle.

A pair of injection point holders 18 are removably connected with the handle 15 by means of stems 19 .with which the holders are provided, said stems each having a portion thereof extending below the base ofits holder 18 and exteriorly threaded to engage the threads in one of the openings 16 or 17 in the handle 15, the lower end of the stem terminating in a nipple 20 for insertion within the outer end of the hose 13, while the other end of the stem 19 provides a Patented Feb. 25, 1919.

threaded socket 21 in the convex face of the holder 18. A rectal injection point 22 and a vaginal injection point 23 are provided for connection with the respective holders 18..

\Vhen it is desired to use the device for flushing the colon, the bag support and handle 15 are arranged upon the bowl of the toilet, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, with the rectal point 22 connected with the centrally'arranged holder 18. The bag 9 is now filled with fluid and the hose 13 connected therewith attached to the lower end of the stem 19 on the holder 18 with which is connected the rectal injection point 22. The seat C of the toilet is noW lowered upon the bag, and the person using the device sits upon the seat with the oint 22 inserted in the rectum, the clasp 14 being operated to permit the fluid within the bag to pass through the point 22 and into the rectum by the weight of the person occupyin the seat.

When the co on has become sufliciently distended by the water forced therein, the 14 is operated to shut off the flow of liquid and the injection point 22 withdrawn from the rectum. The handle 15 is now moved forwardly upon the toilet bowl until it contacts with the bag holder 6 which permits the water to be expelled from the colon without interference from the handle.

When the. device is used to flush the vagina, the hose 13 is connected with the stem 19 of the point holder at the end of the handle 15 in which may bemounted the vaginal injection point 23. The seat of the toilet is now lowered upon the bag 10 and the handle arranged at right angles to the bag and bag support, as shown in Fig. 3 of thedrawings. The person desiring to flush the vagina now sits upon the seat C with the handle grasped in the hand so that the comprising a support adapted to be super-- imposed upon the forward portion of a water closet bowl, means carried by said support for detachably fixing it in said position, a compressible bag adapted to be 'placed upon said support in position to rest under the forward portion of a water closet seat, a handle bar, an injection point carried by said handle bar, and a conduit connection of flexible character interposed between the bag and the injection point.

2. In an apparatus for the purpose described, the combination of a handle bar constructed and arranged to be supported by a' Water closet, a holder superimposed on said bar, a tubular stem extending through the holder and threaded in the handle bar and extending below the lower side of the latter and having an interiorly threaded enlargement at its upper end countersunk in the holder, a hose connected to the lower end of the said stem, and an injection point having, a. reduced and threaded portion disposed in the upper threaded enlargement of the stem.
