Description

PATENT onirica.
FRANK C. GROSSKOPF, F SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
HINGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
'Patented Aug. 22, 1911.
Application lled April 29, 1911. Serial No'. 624,270.
To (illecito/m it may concern: Be it known that I, FRANK C. Gnossitorr,
a citizen of the United States. residing at San Diego. in, the county of San Diego and btate of California, have invented a new and useful Hinge, of which the foll'owing is a specification.
rlliis invention relates to hanger hinges, preferably made of sheet or cast metal, its purposes being the provision of folding and detachable parts having the several features and advantages herein specified, whereby screens, doors, signs, shelves, and other ob- -jects not accessible from the ground, may be easily and quickly applied or removed, be-
cieirt^ size to admit` said pintle extension,
which lforms trunnions for the lower part of the hinge, and said lower part of the hinge having a screw plate integral with the said pintle extension, my invention comprising the combination and arrangement ot' paris substantially as herein described and claimed and of which a convenient emlfiodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings.
\\'liile simple and ellicient means are herciii provided for accomplishing the objects' of the invention and the. elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended, it is to be understood that no limitation is made to the precise structural details exhibited, but that' 'chan-ges, alterations, and modifications, which are within the spirit and scope ot the invention, may be made.
Ot the drawings, Figure l is a front elevation ot' the upper hinge member, disclosing the tapered opening which admits the trunnioned lower member, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the upper hinge member, ["ig. 3 is a front and side elevation of the lower hinge member, Fig. -'L is a front elevation of a modified form ot' the lower hinge meinber having an ott-set screw plate, Fig. 5 shows the parts assembled.
More particularly of the drawings, in which the several views have similar reference characters for like arts of the device, screw holes a, ai'e provided in each hinge member to attach the hinge in an operable position. Opening b, formed by guide members c, is wider at the top for the insertion of trunnioned extension d, of the lower member, the said guide members directing said extension d, to looped end e, forming a hinge knuckle, said extension operating as arpintle.
In use, the upper member being relatively stationary and the lower member being relatively movable and bothmembers being operably mounted, the members may be detached byraising the lowerV one until said trunnioned extension passes through said opening in the upper member. In reassembling, the operation must be reversed. It may be seen that I have provided a device, by the employment of which relatively movable objects may be pivotably mounted to a fixed or relatively stationary support, the relatively movable object being suspended or supported in position, the essence. of my invention comprising a detachable hanger hinge', in which a pintle is formed integrally with the relatively movable member, and a -knucklc is formed on the relatively stationary menibei', and an opening is provided whereby the pintle may be inserted in the knuckle when the movable member is shifted to an4 a loop on the lower eml, and the other ot' said members being a relatively movable member with an olf-set extension having a pintle integral therewith, and extending from both sides oi the extension, adapted to pass through the upper end ot' said hilurcation and engage with the loop on f'he lower end, substantially as set foi-lli.
2,2 In a det-acliablehanger hinge l'or storm windows, a strap member comprising a screw plate end, a body sei-,tion augularly disposed with said screw plalc end and curved at the lower end forming a bearing knuckle, and a pintle member engaging with said knuckle, comprising a plate, an olf-set extension thereon, passing through a tapered opening in the upper body section, and a pintle 'integral with said extension of suilicient'length and shaped to form trunnions ivotally engaging with said knuckle and prevent dislodgment of said pintle member, substantially as set forth.
3. In a detachable hanger hinge, the combination with an upper part having means for attaching to a fixed support and a tapered opening in the extended portion, wider at the top than at the bottom end and having a, loop on thelower end forming a bearing, of a lower part comprising a screw plate, an extension on the screw plate, and
trunnions carried by the-extension adapted as set forth.
4. -In a detachable angerfihinge, an upper part, a screw plate integral with the upper part, guides integral with the upper part having a tapered opening therebetween, a lower part, van extension on the lower part, and trunnions on the extension on opposite sides thereof, adapted to pass through said opening at the upper end and move on said guides to the lower end, substantially as set forth.
