IMPROVEMENT IN TABLES AND DRAWING-BOARDS COMBINED.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,149, dated May 28, 1872.

Fig. 4 is a view of the hinge-brace F; also a leg-extension, f, and a view of one of the legs, D, showing the rack or ratchet d, which catches the end of the hinge-brace and holds it when the legs are extendedor opened.

A is the drawing-board. B is the drawer to hold papers, utensils, and instruments. C C D D are the legs, which are hung or fastened upon the board with hinges so as to fold or shut up on the under side of the board, as in Fig. 2. F F are hinge-braces, so fastened upon the under side of the board that the end falls into the metal rack or ratchet d in the legs and holds them in position when extended or opened, and to fold or shut up between the legs and the board when the legs are folded or shut, as in Fig. 2. These hinge-braces are made of iron or other metal. E c, Fig. 3, is a movable cover, of oil-cloth, rubber, or other flexible cloth, made of the same dimensions as the board, with the ends extending over and attached to the wooden strips with tongues b b, which slide into the grooves a a, and thus make a movable cover for the board to slide on and off, as required, to cover the drawing or sketch when unfinished and when the artist is not at work upon it, and protect it from bea ing soiled or injured. F, Fig. 4, is a view of the hinge-brace, made of metal, iron, or composition, a-nd fastened upon the under side of the board to hold the legs in position when open or extended. f is a-leg-extension with screw or tenon to fit into the lower ends of the two back legs, so as to give the table a proper inclination for convenience in drawing. If made with screw-tenon, they can be easily adjusted so as to give the table a greater or less inclination, as desired. cl is a rack or ratchet of iron or other metal, fastened into the leg,

and into which the end of the hinge-brace F catches and holds the extended leg in position.

I The whole arrangement makes a neat, compact, portable drawing-boardand table combined.

What I claim is-- Combination of the movable cover E b b c, the drawer B, the folding legs C C D D, and braces F F, and the leg-extensions f f as applied to drawing-boards, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.
