To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH ROY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woonsocket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention pertains to game apparatus, and consists in the simple, inexpensive and compact apparatus, hereinafter described and definitely claimed, designed to be played by two or more persons, and calculated to test the skill of and to afford amusement to adults as well as children.

In the accompanying drawings, which are hereby made a part hereof:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of an apparatus constructed according to my inven tion.

Fig. 3 is a section taken in the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, looking downwardly.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.

Among other elements my novel apparatus comprises a base casing 1 having side walls and end walls and also having a top wall the rear portion ofwhich is formed into steps 2 which extend upwardly to the rear end of the casing, for an important purpose hereinafter set forth, are designed to support pins 3, and are provided with apertures 4 for the loose passage of cords 5 each of which is connected at its rear end to the lower end of one pin. At their forward ends the cords 5 are connected to the rear end of a handle rod 6 which is guided in the base casing and is provided with a stop 7 and a knob 8.

Fixed to and rising from the base casing 1 is a transversely arranged bail-shaped support 9, and connected to and movable on the cross bar of said support is a pendent cable 10, equipped at its lower end with a striker 11, preferably in the form of a ball, as illustrated.

In playing a game with the apparatus described, the striker or ball 11 is swung by a player in the arc of a circle to strike and knock over the pins, and in this connection it will be noticed that the stepped relation of the transverse series of pins, due to the provision of the steps 2, offers pins in each series to the striker or ball; also, that the said steps 2 contribute to the unobstructed passage of each cord 5 between its respective pin 3 and the rod 6 of the setting means.

The cords 5 limit the extent to which the pins 3 can be moved when knocked over, and they also serve as the medium through which the setting means or rod 6 draws the pins back to their set up positions.

After one player has demonstrated his skill by one or more manipulations of the striker or ball 11, a player draws the rod 6 forwardly to set up the fallen pins, and then moves said rod rearwardly to loosen the cords so that any pin struck by the ball will be free to fall.

A player is accorded one or more manipulations of the ball 11, according to predetermined arrangement, and he swings the ball in the arc of a circle and with the intention of knocking over as many pins as possible. The proper swinging of the ball and its proper guidance require considerable deXterity,a-nd consequently the game serves to develop the skill of and to amuse both adults and children. I would also have it understood that when thepins are numbered or otherwise given a counting value the game is rendered more interesting and entertaining.

It will be gathered from the foregoing that my novel game apparatus is exceedingly simple and inexpensive, and therefore it may be manufactured with facility and may be sold with profit for a very small price.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A game apparatus comprising a base casing having a top wall the rear portion of which is formed into steps that extend upwardly toward the rear end of the casing and also having apertures in the steps, transverse series of pins removably arranged on the steps, setting means movable in the front portion of the casing, cords connected to the lower ends of the pins and the setting means, and means arranged to be swung in the arc of a circle to knock over the pins.
