This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys and constitutes a play device designed especially for children, but which, however, due to its fascinating nature, the skill acquired through exercise, the quickness of wit, and control of mental faculties, may in like manner appeal to, and be played by adults.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:

Figure 1 is an elevational top plan view of the invention.

Figure 2 is a cross sectional view, taken on the line 2-2 in Figure 1; while Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view, taken on the line 3--3 in Figure 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral Ill indicates a structure, or casing, which comprises a bottom II raised at its center, as at I2, and sloping down toward each of the ends I3, I3.

Said bottom I I is encased by two side members I4, I4. A short distance from each end of each side member is arranged and secured to the latter a transverse member I5, I5. Pockets I6, I6 are disposed at each end of the bottom I I, and within the length of the side members I4, I4.

The transverse members l5, I are also arranged between the side members M, I4 so as to form a space between the ends I3, I3 of said bottom I I and the transverse members I5, I5 in order to permit a ball to pass through said space and drop down into said pockets PS, IS.

A threaded rod I1 is arranged at the center of the side members l4, I4, between these, and secured to the latter in any convenient manner. Two spinners 2!], 20 correspondingly threaded, are slidably mounted on the rod II.

Standards I8, I B, are, as shown, likewise secured to the side members l4, I4, right above the said rod I'I. Each standard has at its top a pin I9 on which a flag 2| is turnably arranged; the said pin being so constructed, or bent, that it will support said flag in an upper position, when the flag is swung around and into said upper position from its normally downwardly depending position, by being hit by a spinner, as will be hereinafter more fully described.

Each of the transverse members I5, I5 is formed with a central opening 22 therein. A

2 tubular member 23 is arranged in each of said openings.

The said tubular member, while resting with one end upon an elevation 24, formed between two pockets I6, I6, is at the other end provided with a support 25, turnably embedded. in the bottom I I, so as to permit a limited horizontal sidewise movement of said tubular member, which is further provided with a bottom plate 26 in order to steady its said movement.

The said tubular member 23 has an opening 21 in the upper side thereof for insertion of a.

ball 28.

The other end of said tubular member 23 is provided with means of the rather customary kind for expelling said ball, namely a handle 29, a spring 30, and a circular disk 3| at the end of the latter for striking said ball. Means (not shown) may also be arranged upon said tube, whereby to cock said spring.

The game is played, preferably, by two at the time; and each player is supplied with a number of balls, generally six, with which he, by means of the tubular device, shoots at one of said spinners assigned to him, trying to have it move toward the nearest wall of the casing, and ultimately strike the flag, so that the latter is raised; the one who first succeeds in raising the flag on his side is considered the winner.

However, a combat may issue between the players, as they may shoot at each others spinners so as to prevent or delay said spinners from reaching the wall and raise the flag.

The balls are normally kept in the pockets during the play, and roll back to the respective pockets after each shot, due to the sloping surface of the bottom.

It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and we do not, therefore, wish to limit ourselves to the exact construction shown and described herein.

What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

In a device of the class described, a casing comprising two side walls, a bottom arranged between the latter, said bottom being raised at the center and sloping downwardly toward both ends thereof, transverse members formed with a central opening therein and being disposed between said side walls at a short distance from the ends of the bottom, whereby to form a pocket between the latter and said members adapted to receive a ball, a threaded rod centrally arranged between the side walls, and spinners mounted upon said rod, a tubular member arranged at each end of the structure and projecting through the opening in said transverse members, supports turnably embedded in the bottom and supporting said tubular members, whereby to permit a limited horizontal movement of the latter, and a plate at the bottom of each of the tubular members, whereby to steady said movement, said tubular members having an opening in their upper sides adapted to receive a ball, and means, whereby a ball may be expelled from said tubular members, said means comprising a handle, a spring and a disk at the end of the latter adapted to strike said ball; the transverse members being spaced a distance above the bottom whereby to permit a ball to pass underneath said members and into said pocket.
