Description
FRED E. KAEIVIIF, OF GLADS'IQNE, MICHIGAN.
CONDIMENTrI-IOLDER.
rea ers.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pgmbgntggdl June; 235, jlllljl@,
Application filed August 22, 1917. Serial No. 1557,513.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRED E. KAEMPF, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Gladstone, in the county of Delta and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in condiment-holders,
the same being adapted to receive several distinct articles used for table or kitchen purposes, and the same is particularly adapted for use as a combined salt and pepper shaker.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a condiment-holder of the character stated having a separate perforated outlet for each individual compartment whereby the mixture of the several condiments is prevented.
A further important advantage of the herein disclosed invention is to provide novel means common to each perforated outlet for simultaneously closing each outlet or for simultaneously closing one outlet and opening the other.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and particularly defined by the appended claim, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed according to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereof, in Which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view with parts broken and in section to more clearly illustrate structural details.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of my invention.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing the numeral 1 designates a container divided into a series of compartments P and S by means of a partition 2 and formed with spouts 3 providing outlets for the said compartments, each compartment being provided in its bottom with the usual filling opening adapted to be closed by any suitable stopper 4:.
Each spout 3 has its mouth exteriorly threaded to receive a perforated cap or cover 5 upon which is rotatably mounted by means of a suitable centrally disposed pivot pin 6 a perforated slide 7 the perforations of which are adapted to selectively aline with the perforations of the cap or cover 5 whereby to open and close the same. An ear 8 is formed on the peripheral edge of each slide 7 and each ear has pivotally secured thereto, one end of a link or other suitable connecting member 9 which is provided intermedi ate its ends with a suitable enlargement 10, whereby the slides may be rotated to simultaneously open and close the perforations of the caps or covers 5.
One of the caps or covers 5 has projecting laterally from its side a pair of spaced pins 11 adapted to provide stops having an ear or a lug l2 integral with and depending from one slide 7 whereby the rotation of both slides is limited as will be obvious. The perforations of the caps 5 and slides 7 are so arranged as to be out of line when a the lug 19. is intermediate the pins 11 whereby closing the outlet of both spouts, and the perforations of one cap and its slide will register and the perforations of the other cap and its slide will be out of line when the lug 12 is at either one of its limits of movement and vice versa, to thus provide the simultaneous closing of the outlet of one compartment and the opening of the other or to provide the simultaneous closing of the outlets of both compartments.
The modification depicted in Fig. 3 is similar to the form of my invention disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2 except that the container is shown as made with straight lines instead of cylindrical and the link 9 is diagonally connected with the ears 8 which in no way interferes with the eflicient simultaneous operation of the slides 7.
As will be readily apparent from the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the container maybe constructed of any suitable material such as metal, glass, porcelain or the like.
I claim:
A device of the class described comprising, in combination, a container divided to provide a plurality of compartments, a spout extending from each compartment to from each slide, a link pivotally connecting" each ear whereby the simultaneous operation of each slide is effected, a loop intermediately formed in said link for manipulating the slides, a downturned lug formed 011 one of said slides, and stops carried by 10 ing said lug at either of its limits of movement substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Gladstone, in the county of Delta and State of Michigan.
FRED E. KAEMPF.
