BOOT-HEEL-LIFI MAGAZINE.
Application filed April 16, 1917. Serial No. 162,490.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RONALD ALFRED LEE, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Kelvedon, Victoria Road, l Voollahra, near Sydney, New South Vales, Australia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boot-Heel-Lift Magazines, of which the following is a specification.
According to present practice in boot and shoe manufactories, heel lifts of assorted sizes and materials are filled into loose boxes or trays which. are loosely placed on a bench. The heel builder selects the lifts he requires, in order, from these loose boxes and builds the lifts to heel form on a block, nailing them together thereon and thence passing them forward for further factory operations.
These loose stock trays or boxes are necessarily of limited size, in order that a sufficient number of them may be grouped within arms length of the heel builder, and consequently the stock contained in them is soon exhausted and loss of time and con.- fusion is caused in refilling them from stock bins.
My invention has for its vide a magazine to facilitate and speed the work of the heel builder and obviate loss of time and inconvenience which are caused in re-charging loose stock boxes with lifts.
According to my invention the lifts are stocked in hopper chambers in a self feeding magazine, from which chambers they are drawn by the heel builder. The magazine chambers are built in a double tier and fitted together in a radial order so that the delivering mouths partially surround the heel block bench within arms reach thereof, and they are constructed so that each magazine is capable of carrying a relatively large stock of lifts. The stock feeds by gravity on a steeply sloped floor toward an open top foot box in the front of the hopper. Refilling of the magazine chambers is effectedthrough back vents in the hoppers without disturbing the work of the heel builder who draws his supplies from the delivery mouths in the foot boxes at the front ends of the hopper chambers.
Construction of the magazine in unit sections adapted to be secured together enables object to proll atented June in, timid.
the speedy erection of a magazine of any required capacity by assembling appropriate sections, and further enables the addition of further sections thereto as required.
In the accompanying drawing Figure l is an elevational perspective view of a magazine of 20 chambers and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a unit section, being one chamber of a twotier magazine such as that shown assembled in Fig. 1
e hopper chambers or sections are arranged as shown in a radial order with the foot boxes facing around the bench B, on which the heel building block A is mounted. Each magazine comprises a hopper C with a rear vent D for charging purposes and a steeply sloping bottom E which at the forward end terminates in a foot box with an open top mouth F. The stock runs by gravity to the foot box. When a group of these units is built or assembled in the manner shown the space in front of the heel builder is occupied by a relatively large number of stock delivery months F, each of which is appropriately labeled or numbered, and these mouths are maintained always full by the flowing of the stock from the hoppers which constitute the rear portion of the chambers. The heel builder has therefore within ready reach of him an assortment of heel lifts which it would not be practicable to place within his reach if they were contained in loose boxes according to present practice. This self feeding magazine equipment therefore factilitates the work of the heel builder by permitting him to work undisturbed and maintaining always a constant supply of stock ready to hand and arranged in such order that he can with the utmost readiness select the particular pieces required and place them in order on the block A.
The detail of construction adapted in any particular case to facilitate the erection of the unit sections on an underframe and to at tach them in close radial order side by side may be varied according to circumstances.
hat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A self-feeding boot heel lift magazine comof single stock hoppers assembled in groups and havin each a feeding opening in its rear wall w; ile terminat- Will ing at the forward end in a stock delivery In testimony wherof I have ufiixed my foot box open at the top each hopper also slgnature 1n the presence of two wltnesses' having a floor steeply sloping toward said RONALD ALFRED LEE, open foot box permitting the stock to pass Witnesses:
