This invention relates to 'improvenientsin railway switches and has for one of its objects the provision of a pair of switch points adapted to be alternately moved to engage a frog so that a car can be switched from one track to another.
Another object of this invention is to provide a novel means for moving the switch points into and out of engagement with the from Ai nother object of this invention is the provision of a railway switch of the abovestated character which shall be simple, durable and eflicient and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combina tion and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view partly in section of a railway switch constructed in accordance with my invention,

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, illustrating the means of connecting the switch points together, and
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a supporting plate mounted upon railroad ties 2 and secured thereto by fasteners 3. The supporting plate 1 supports one end of a frog 4 which has the usual branch rails 5 forming a portion of a switch.

The switch mile 6 and 7 are connected so that they will be compelled to move 11111111011 by means of links 10. that are pivotedto earsll formed upon the switch rails so that when one switch rail is moved into engagement with the frog 4, the free end of the other switch rail will be spaced therefrom so that a car or train may freely pass on to the switch rail that is in engagement with the frog without engaging or interfering with the other switch rail.
The switch rails 6 and 7 have slidably mounted upon their outer faces elongated plates 12 on which are formed quadrant switch point operating blocks 13 having their curved faces disposed outwardly from the switch rails into engagement with a series of converging guides 14 secured to the ties 2, whereby sliding the plates 12 upon the switch rails 6 and 7 in opposite directions, the blocks 13 will force one of the switch rails into engagement with the frog 4 and disengage the other switch rail therefrom.
A rod 15 is pivoted to one of the blocks 13 upon the switch rail 6 and is in turn pivoted to a lever 16 that is pivoted upon one of the ties 2. A transverse operating rod 17 is journaled to one of the ties by means of brackets 18- and has formed adjacent one end a crank 19 on which is journaled a rod 20 that is in turn pivoted to the other end of the lever 16.
One end of the operating rod 17 has its end disposed at right angles to form an actuating arm 21 to which is pivoted the rod 22. The rod 22 is pivoted to one of the blocks 13 upon the switch rail 7 whereby upon rotating the operating shaft 17, one series of the blocks 13 will be moved in one direction while the other series is moved in the opposite direction so as to cause the switch rails 6 and 7 to alternately engage the frog 4. The free end of the operating rod 17 may be connected in the usual manner to a switch target so that upon rotating the ordinary target the switch rails 6 and 7 will be caused to engage and disengage the frog 4 for the purpose of switching a car or train from one track to another.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it

2. A railway switch comprising a frog, switch points pivotally mounted and disposed upon each side of the frog, links pivotally connecting the switch points, plates slidable 011 the side faces of the switch points, quadrant blocks having their straight faces formed on the plates, guides engaging the curved faces of said blocks and means sliding the plates in opposite directions to cause the blocks to move the switch points by their curved faces engaging the guides.
