ALEXANDER IDOM, 0F CINCINNATI, OHIO,
JPANY, OF CINCINNATI, DHI
RAGE ATTACHMENT FOR LEDG'ERS.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER DoM, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Back Attachments for Ledgers, of which the following specification is a full disclosure.
My invention relates to a leaf holding device used as an attachment for a temporary binder, as, for instance, in the work of the machine posting of ledger accounts, and the like.
The object of theinvention is to provide a collapsible sheet metal attachment for the binder, adapted to hold the sheets securely and in spaced relation to the binding posts, enabling the sheets to be offset and protecting the edges from displacement by jostling, the attachment being easily connected with the binder and securely held thereon and being foldable' when detached into a compact structure.
The features of the invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the binder supported upon the cradle with the posting attachment in position;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the posting attachment. i
Fig. 3 is aside elevation, partly broken away, showing the posting attachment folded.
The binder is conventional the back 1, the covers 2, 2, the binding plates 3, 3', the binding posts 4:, and the leaves 5. i
For posting work, the binder is opened up as shown in Fig. 1 and supported upon a cradle 6, the sheets restingpn the upwardly projecting binder cover 2, the attachment to be supported on the downwardly inclined binder cover 2 for receiving the posted sheets as they are taken oil of the binder posts. I My rack attachment is slightly wider than the binder to enable offsetting of the leaves, and it comprises a sheet metal base 7 formed with side flanges '8, 8, and also with U- shaped ribs 9, 9, preferably disposed respectively near and parallel with the flanges 8, 8'', or as to occupy a position outside of or beyond the two end binder posts.
" Specification oi Letters Patent.
Application filed Flay 10, 1916.
and comprises Patented June it, 1918, Serial m. 96,505.
To the front edge of theb'ase 7 is hinged a slightly curved binder engaging member 10 by means of the hinge rod 11, the lower edge of said member being-formed with the apertures 12 for receiving the binder posts, these apertures being preferably ei'rtended laterally, enabling tainingly engage said member for detach ably holding the tray on the downwardly inclined cover of the binder, said member 10 being contoured to lit over the binder plate 3.
The back 13, of the holder, with the side flanges 14, 14;, having pivotal connections 15 to the base flanges 8, 8. This enables the base member 10 and back to be folded or compacted (as shown in Fig. 3), andwhen unfolded. the lower margin. of the back will strike against the rearends of the ribs 9, 9, of the base forming a leaf receptacle appropriately supported on the binder cover 2, as shown in Fig. 1.
is also formed The U-ribs 9, 9, fit the apertures 16 of the I ledger leaves.
In operation, the leaf 17, taken from the the binder posts to reledger and posted, is preferably placed in the liolderwith the rib 9 entered into the end aperture 16, Y isplaced in the tray with the left hand base rib 9 entered into the left end aperture 16, thus providing the ofi'setting, and the edges of the leaves being protected by theflanges of the back and base.
Preferably the distance between the flange 8 and the inside of the'rib 9 and between flange 8 and rib l9 is equal to a sheet width, so that the edges of the offset leaves will be snugly fitted against one or back flanges My, 14-", so as to be properly lined up and protected against displacement in the holder and enabling convenient inspection of and manipulation of the leaves for rebinding into the ledger.
I claim r I 1. A leaf holding attachment for a loose leaf binder comprising a hingedly connected base and back, a member attached to the base for fitting over the binder plate and formed to detachably engage the binder posts for supporting the base and back on an inclined cover.
while the unposted leaf 17 1 the other, of the 2. Aleaf holding attachment for a loose leaf binder comprising a hinged] y connected base and back formed with side flanges, thebase being formed with leaf positioning devices, and a binder engaging member hingedly connected to the base.
A leaf holding attachment for a loose leaf binder comprising a base and back formed with side flanges hingedly connected and with leaf positioning devices, and a member hinged to the front edge of the base for engaging over the binder plate and being formed With apertures for detachably engaging the binder posts.
t. A sheet metal leaf holding attachment for a loose leaf binder comprising a base and back formed with the integral side flanges hingedly connected, the base having U-ribs extending parallel with said side flanges of the base and adapted to engage into the leaf apertures, and a member hinged to thefront edge of the base contoured to fit over the binder plate, the lower margin of said memher being formed with apertures to detach ably engage the binder posts for supporting the holder in the subsequent position on the inclined cover of the binder.
5. An attachment for a loose leaf binder comprising a leaf holder adapted tobe supported on the inside of the cover of an opened binder and to detachably engage the binder posts.
6. A rack or binder leaves, adapted to detachably engage the binder posts and to support the rack in leaf holding position on the inside of the cover of an open binder.
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name, as attested by the two subscribing witnesses.
ALEXANDER DOM.
