To all 'whom t may concern.' s `Be it known that" I, Max Genion, a citizen of `the Republic; of Russia, and `a resident nof New Yorkf orough of Bronx, Vcounty of Bronx, and State oli' NewYork, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement` in ,Safety Collar-Buttons, of which the `following is a full, clear, `and exact specification.

This invention relates more .particularly to a 'form of button `whichis an improvement on the collar button `disclosed inmy Patent No. 1,206,529, dated NovemberoQS, `1916, and has `for its objectfprimarily to provide a device whereby collars and cuiifs may bedetachably `fastened on shirts, waists and like garments besides being adapted for attaching together other `parts of garments. The invention consists essentiallyof a rigid post with a base plate on one of" its ends, and` having a head on its other end. Lengthwise of thev post isa groove which tenminates with a notch formed in the post in spaced proximity to the base plate. Arranged in the groove crosswise of the notch is a rod, or finger of spring metal having one end fixed to the post at the base plate so that the other part of the rod may be sprung outwardly and inwardly of the' groove, and movably mounted in the notch between the rod and the post 1s a clamp, or

holding element which serves a purpose simi' lar to the one disclosed in said patent.

A further object of the invention is to provide a safety button of a simple and eilicient construction which is susceptible of being made in various sizes and shapes.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specication in 'which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, the said invention being more fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of the upper part of a garment showing one form of my improved collar button applied thereto.

13, so that the terminates with a notch, or `which `may be somewhat of a head 11 onits upper end and a base plate 12 on' its lower end, all of' which maybe of any desired shapes and sizes. The post 1 0 maybe of solid metal with the head and baseplate being integrally `formed thereon, or thepost may be made of sheet metal with thehead and basefplate attached thereto `in any suitable manner.

The `post1 10 is grooved lengthwise, as at s groove "preferably"extends from the juncture of "the head 11 to a part of the post in spacedV proximity to the base plate 12, and the lower end of the groove "recess, asl 14, p cone shape,"as shown, as 'well as being `of a depth somewhat deeperthan the groove 13.

Disposed in rthe. groove 13 crosswise -of the notch 11 is a rod, or finger 15 which is made of spring metal, or other yielding material, and one end of this spring rod is lixed, at 16, to the lower end of the post. This rod is of a length so that its second end extends in close movable proximity to the underside of the head of the post, besides bei-ng slightly countersunken in the groove. By this arrangement the upper part of the rod 15 may be sprung outwardly and inwardly of the groove 13 of the post.

Movably mounted in the notch 14 of the post 10 is a clamp, or holding element 17 which serves a purpose similar to the clam employed in my Patent No. 1,206,529, dated November 28, 1916. The clamp may be of any suitable type, though this clamp is preferably formed with two spaced straight arms 18 and 19 with a loop, as 20, formed on one of the corresponding ends thereof, while the second ends of these arms are bridged by a crossbar 21. The crossbar 2l is substantially rectangular, as Well as being of a length slightly longer than the width'of the post 10 of the button, and this cross bar is seated in the apex of the notch 14 between the post and the spring rod 15 so as to be yieldingly clamped therein. The clamp 17 is of a length and also of a size to permit of being guided back and forth from a position extending laterallv from the post in spaced relation to the base plate to a position in straddle arrangement over the post 10 and over .ing myself thereto,

When the clamp is disposed over the post and head the button may be employed by guiding the post with the clamp through a buttonhole of a garment, and the clamp is then sprung in lapping arrangement on the face of the garment opposite to that in Contact with the base plate of the button. The head and post of the button are then guided in the usual fashion through a second buttonhole provided in the ga'ment'to register with the other buttonho e.

In the foregoing description, I have embodied the preferred form of my invention, but I do not wish to be understood as limitas I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle, or sacrificing any of the advantages of y this invention, therefore I reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope thereof.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent y l.y In a Collar button, a rigid post with a base plate and a head on its ends, and a spring actuated nger projecting alongside of the post from the base plate so as to be Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing sprung back and forth from the post Whereby a clamp may be operatively mounted on the post, substantially as set forth.

In a collar button, a rigid post with a base plate and a head on its ends, said post having a groove lengthwise thereof, and a rod of spring metal having one end held to the post at one end of the groove so as to be sprung outwardly and inwardly of the groove, the said rod being adapted to operatively retain a clamp on the post, substantially as set forth.

3. In a collarbutton, a rigid post with a base plate and a headon its ends, said post having a groove lengthwise thereof and having a notch at one end of the groove, and a rod of spring metal disposed in the groove crosswise of the notch as well as having one end held to the post for being sprung inwardly and outwardly of the groove whereby a clamp may be operatively retained on the post, substantially as set forth.
