CIGAR-PROTECTOR To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VAHAN CHEnEnJIAn, an Armenian subject of Turkey, res1d1ng 1n the town of West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented'new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Protectors, .more fully set out in the specification hereinafter.
The novel feature of my invention relates 'articularly to caps for cigar or cigarette olders, both as a convenience and as a protection in handling or carrying the lighted cigar or cigarette.
The ob'ects of my improvement are firstly to provi e means for preventing the promiscuous scattering of ashes from the,
burned cigar; and secondly, to facilitate carrying or handlin in that the cap on the holder complete y incases the lighted cigar or cigarette, and whether carried in about, danger of fire nated at all times, nothwithstanding the fact that smoking may be interrupted or resumed intermittently without relighting.
The drawings illustrate the improvement, e. 9., Figure 'l is, a side elevation of the holder and cap assembled, showing the all) radial air passages 3;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-section of the holder and cap, showing the cigarette in elevation;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the cap A one line 3-3, showing a plan view of the holder B;
Fig. a is a modified form of the holder and cap with longitudinal .air passages channeled in the holder;
Fig. 5 is a crom-section-of the cap and holderwith a threaded union, having onneled air passages as in Fig. 4:;
Fig. 6 is a transverse section of the cap A and a plan view of the holder B with peripheral air passages channeled therein. The cap A 18 represented as a hollow,
tubular shell, so as to envelop the cigar or cigarette and to strip over the holder B at the open end having the outer end closed.
B is of the usual type of construction in cigar holders. it is also hollow with an opening 1 therethrough tapering from the outer end designated 2 in Figs. 3, d, and 6, which is adapted to receive the cigar or cigarette, to the tip or mouth-piece ii.
F Peripherally it is smooth and round be slightly beveled and. fitted to the cap .combination or means of iln'itin Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patentgd 21, 1918,, Application filed November 30, i917. Serial No. 204,793.
which it is entered except for the longitudinal grooves or channels, designated 4, Figs. 4 and '6, spaced apart in the circumference of the holder B, serve as air passages to the endthat the cap A may be in fact a cap or cover completely inclosing the cigar or cigarette. Thus assembled the combinationprevents infiammability in carrying the cigar about in the pocket enabhng the smoker so to manipulate his cigar or cigarette that smoking may be interrupted or resumed at leisure without such incidental danger or inconvenience.
My improvement is not'limited to the the cap A with the holder B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, but may be likewise attached by means of threads, (see Fig. 5), which rigidl secure the cap and holder together, the a vanta e of which is the more readilydemonstrate when carried in the pocket.
Also the radial apertures 3 in thecap the cap, so that the currents of air enter-' ing the cap by way of the perforations 3 and the longitudinal grooves or channels d must circulate within the cap more or less promiscuously before being drawn through the cigar and holder, as stated, thus pro viding an indirect or so-called backdraft, which not only retards combustion but in a lesser degree controls free currents of air.
In manufacture my improved article may be made of any suitable material such as is used in making pipes and the like.
Having thus described the operation and combination of my improvement, I claim:
1. The combination of a hollow tubular cap for enveloping a cigar, a cigar holder adapted'to enter the cap and longitudinal grooves, spaced apart circumferentially in the body of the cigar holder, serving as air cap.
res
2. A cigar holder with its outer end screw a hollow cap having radial perforations Signed at West Hoboken, New Jersey,
diagonally disposed through the body of the this 26th day of November, 1917 i Gap said cap enve oping the-cigar and engaging the cigar holder and longitudinal 1 VAHAN CHEREKJIAN grooves in the cigar holder, spaced apart, I Witnesses:
serving-as air passages leading to the space DICRAN SIMSARIAN,
within the cap. v HAIG SI' SARIAN.
