Description

G. E.- MORSE PICTURE. LIFTER. APPLICATION FILED JULY 21} I917.
Patented $2111.29, 1918;
Eli mute:
GEORGE E MORSE cairn s as rare" mes.
GEORGE E. MORSE, 0F BROCK'ION, MASSACHUSETTS.
PICTURE-LIFTER.
Application filed July 21, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. Monsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Lifters, of which the following is a specification reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in picture lifters and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with hooks and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby a picture hook may be detachably supported at the end portion of an elongated member in such a manner as to permit the hook to be engaged with or disengaged from a molding strip.
Furthermore it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved lifter including :1 prong or tine adapted to be disposed through a slot or opening pro duced in an end portion of the picture hook whereby said hook may be detachably engaged with the member in order to facilitate application of a hook to or removal from applied position.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved picture lifter wherein certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler. less expensive and otherwise more advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanving drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in perspective illustrating a picture lifter constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention';
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in side elevation of my improved lifter as herein embodied and showing a picture hook operatively engaged therewith;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view partly in side elevation and partly in section illustrating Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1918.
Serial No. 182,055.
a picture hook operatively engaged with my improved lifter in a manner different from that illustrated in Fig. 2; and 1 Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in section of my improved lifter as herein disclosed.
As herein embodied my improved lifter comprises an elongated member 1 having one end portion bifurcated as indicated at 2 with 1 one of the arms 3 afforded by said bifurcation terminating inwardly of the second arm 4.
Positioned within the kerf afforded by the bifurcation 2 is an end portion of a flat spring 5, the outer portion of which extends over the end of the arm or fork 2 and terminates in the upwardly or outwardly facing hook 6 adapted to receive an end portion of the picture hook or hanger 7. The end portion of the hook or hanger 7 is frictionally held within the hook (5 so that said picture hook or hanger may be readily applied to or removed from a picture molding or the like withoutthe necessity of an operator standing upon a chair or employing a stepladder or the like.
In practice it will be understood that the the hanger or hook 7 before said hanger or hook 7 is applied to a molding or the like in order to facilitate the hanging of the picture.
Also extending within the curve of the bifurcation 2 is a rigid plate 8 extending beyond the outer end of the arm or fork 3 and the upper or outer end of said plate has struck therefrom the tongue 9 disposed on an incline relative to the member 1. The junction of the tongue 9 with the plate 8 is adjacent the upper or outer end of the fork 3. and the outer ends of the free end portion of said arm or fork 3 is beveled as indicated at 10. The tongue 7 is adapted to be disposed through the opening or slot 11 produced in an end portion of the hook or hanger 7 while the portion of the hook or hanger 7 immediately adjacent said slot or opening 11 is adapted for contact with the beveled portion 10 of the fork or arm 3., so that the hanger or picture book 7 will be maintained in such a position as to facilitate its application into a picture molding or the like. I
From the foregoing description, it is thoughtrto be. obvious that a picture lifter tion Without materially departing lrom the appearance and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not Wish to be'understoodqas limitmg myself to the precise arrangement and .1formation:;0f the several parts herein shown T1111? carrying: out' my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
