Description

of the pitman'y 43 causes the disk 38, to rotate first in one direction and then the other, when the pinion 24, is continuously revolved.
Surrounding and covering the gearing is a removable 'case or cover 44, which is astened to the cover by the screws 46. A .vertical slot 45, is provided in the cover 44 adjacent to the balance wheel 20, to allow the passage ot' shaft 1.9. operation of my device, I fill the tub partly full of soapy Water and 'dirty clothes and clamp down the cover 14. The balance Wheel 20, is then rotated, which in turn imparts rotation to the bevel pinion 24', through the intermediate bevel pinion 22, and shaft 19. The rotation of the crank-pin 42, reciprocates the pitman 43 and imparts an alternating rotary movement to the disk 38,'through the Wrist-pin 4l. The rotation of the disk 38 causes a similar movement ot the large pinion 37, which in turn imparts a similar movement to the pinion 33 and the dolly 32.
The use of the large pinion 37, allows a greater range of rotation in each direction to the dolly than could be accompanied by connecting the pitman 43 direct to the. pinion 33. The openings 39 and the disk 3S allow the operator to regulate the amount of rotation of the dolly in each direction, and effect a change in the gearing ratio of the balance Wheel 2O .to the revolution of the dolly- In the practical- It Awill be -understood that some changes may be made in the construction and arran ement of the parts of my improved was ing machine gearing without eparting from its essential features and purposes, and it is my intent to cover by this` application any changes which may be included within the scope of my claims.
I claim as my invention:
In a device of the class described, asupport, three spaced parallel shafts mounted thereon and arranged in thc same vertical plane, a pinion .mounted on the central shaft, a larger pinion and a disk mounted on one of the other shafts, the piniorrheing adaptedto mesh with the first described pinion and the disk having a l\1rality of spaced openings therein, removed varying distances from the periphery of said disk, a detachable wrist pin selectively mounted in one of said openings. a pinion mounted on the third shaft4 Aa rrank pin fixed in said pinion, a pitnian haring one end pivoted to the crank pinand tho other ond pivoted to said wrist pin, and moans tor imparting rotation to the last described pinion, the parts boingr so arranged that` vrotation of the last described pinion imparts to the disk oscillating 1'1'1o\;rnont of varying degree according lo which oi tho several opening.k the wrist pin is received in.
