Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 20, 1917 Application filed June 26, 1917. Serial No. 177,052.
skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to window seats, chairs, or supports deslg'ned for use by w1ndow cleaners, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be connected with a window frame and on which a window cleaner may sit or stand in the operation of cleaning a window; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of the bottom part of a window frame, showing my improved Window seat or support, also in section;
Fig. 2 a plan view of the construction and attachment as shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 a perspective view of the seat or support detached; and,
Fig. 4 a section on the line l4 of Fig. 2.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown at a one side portion of a window frame and at 02 the bottom or bottom sill of said frame, said bottom or bottom sill being provided with the usual projecting ledge a In the practice of my invention, I provide a window seat or support I) which, in the construction shown, is made of sheet metal bent at four different points 6 b 7)" and b to form a box-shaped seat or base portion 6 and a back portion 6 said back portion being double or composed of two parts riveted together as shown at 6 Across the top of the back portion 79 and preferably at the back thereof is riveted, or otherwise secured, a cross bar 0 having projecting end portions 0 with which are loosely connected supplemental supports d, preferably of flexible material, and these supplemental supports'are provided at their freeends with hooks (Z I-bolts or similar devices (Z secured to, or in the sides a ofthe window frame.
I also provide rods '6 which are passed through the bottom box-shaped portion b of the seat or support and are provided at their outer ends with heads 6 and at their inner ends with nuts 6 and secured to the bottom or sill of the window frame transversely thereof and outside of the spaces a and a in which the sashes are mounted are plates 7 having vertical ears f.
In mounting the window seat or support in connection with the Window or Window frame, the bottom or box-shaped portion 6 of the seat or support is placed on the ledge a of the window sill and said bottom or boX- shaped portion abuts against a raised shoulder of the window sill at the bottom of the window as shown in Fig. l, and the rods e are passed through the ears f after which the nuts 6 are-applied and said rods together with the supplemental supports all securely hold the seat or support in connection with the window frame and a window cleaner may sit or stand on the seat or support with absolute security in the operation of cleaning the window or window sashes.
In the accompanying drawing, the lower sash g is shown but the upper sash is not shown, and it will be understood that the sashes may be raised and lowered in the usual manner.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A window seat or support composed of a single sheet of metal bent to form a horizontal box-shaped bottom portion and an upright back portion.
2. A window seat or support composed of a single sheet of metal bent to form a horizontal box-shaped bottom portion and an upright back portion composed of separate parts riveted together.
8. A window seat or support composed of sheet metal bent to form a box-shaped portion and an upright back portion, the boxshaped portion being provided with rods which pass inwardly therethrough and the inner ends of which are provided with means for detachably securing said rods to the bottom of the window frame and the top of the back portion being provided with supplemental supports adapted to be detacha'dapted to engage ably connected With the sides of the Window frame.
4. A Window seat or support composed of a single sheet of metal bent to form a bottom box-shaped portion and an upright back portion, a cross bar secured to the top of the back portion and the ends of which extend beyond the sides of the back portion and are provided With apertures, rods passed inwardly through the bottom portion and detachably connected With the bottom of the Window frame and flexible supporting de- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five vices detachably connected With the apertures in the ends of said cross bar and With the sides of the Window frame.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 23rd day of June 1917.
