Be it known that I, GIUSEPPE' SCACCHI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phillipsburg, in the county of Warren and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom- Pickers, of which the following is a speclcation, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. This invention relates to an improved loom picker and has for its primary object to provide a picker of that character generally employed upon looms for operating the shuttle, which is exceedingly durable, and is so constructed that'wear upon the shuttle and possible injury to the work is obviated while, at the same time, the picker may be manufactured at relatively smallA cost. e It is another and more particular objec of my invention to provide a loom picker constructed ofsole leather which is reverslble upon the upper end of the picker stick so that when one end of the picker becomes unduly Worn, the other end thereof may be used, and renewable lugs projectlng from the longitudinal edges of the picker adjacent its ends for engagement with the shuttlc box. 1

WithV the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates the picker stick of a loom which may be mounted and actuated by means of any ordinary or preferred mechanism. The picker constituting the present invention, indicated bv the numeral 6, is constructed of sole leather and is of elongated, rectangular form. This picker is centrally pro! vided with an opening-'7 extending transversely therethrough to receive the upper end of the picker stick 5. 'Tn eachl end of the picker, a transversely extending socket or recess 8 is formed and disposed in par-v allel relation to the adjacent end edge of the picker. These lugs 9 are detachably secured to the picker by means of screws, rivets, or other suitable fastening elements' indicated at 1l, which pass through the H I -leather picker and the shank of the lug engaged in the socket 8.

The device operates in the usual manner of loom pickers, one end of the picker engaging the spindle of the shuttle in the oscillation of the picker 6. The end edge of the upwardly projecting lug 9 engages the shuttle while the other lug 9 which projects downwardly from the body 6 of the picker, moves in the picker stick slot which is provided in the bottom wall of the shuttle box. It is, of course, understood that there is sufficient relative movement of the picker upon the end of the picker stick so that a rectilinear movement is imparted to the picker in the oscillation of the stick. When the end of the picker becomes worn, the picker may be detached from the upper end of the picker stick and reversed soas to present the other end thereof to the shuttle. The lugs 9 can also be readily removed when they break or become worn, and replaced with new lugs. Thus, the serviceabilityof the picker is practically doubled and, by constructing the same of leather, possible injury to the shuttle or the work is obviated. The ordinary picker which is not reversible, seldom lasts more than one month before it has to be renewed. In the present invention, however, by providing the renewable lugs 9 and reversing the picker on the end of the picker stick, I have found that the picker will give satisfactory service for a period of one year. Thus, it will be seen that the present invention materially increases the utility and serviceability of de vices of this character. It is also manifest that the improved picker can be manufactured at substantially the same cost as the ordinary form of picker now in general use.

While T have shown and described the preferred form and arrangement of the sev eral parts of the device, it is to be understood that the same are susceptible of considerable modification therein and l, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my invention, what l desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is:
