TOOL FOR TURNING AND TRUING CRANK-PINS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that we, JOHN MURRIE and \VILLIBALD O'r'r, citizens of the United States, residing at La Crosse, in the county of La Crosse and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools for Turning and Truing Crank-Pins, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to hand tools for turning crank pins for the purpose of truing them.
'The objects of the invention are to provide a strong and eflicient tool for turning and truing These ob ects we attain by the construction illustrated in the accompanying draw-' ing, in which:

A A designate two parallel bars spaced apart and formed with oppositely projecting handles a a.
B designates the fixed jaw formed of a rectangular block having two opposite sides provided with longitudinal grooves 72 I) receiving adjacent faces of the bars A A, which bars are secured to the said fixed jaw by transverse screws 6. A second fixed block C is similarly secured between the bars A A by screws I2 I A rigid, easily separable rectangular frame or tool stock is thus formed within which slides the movable jaw B, provided with grooves b 6 receiving the bars A A and permitting sliding movement thereon. The movable jaw B is pressed toward the fixed jaw B by a plate spring E, the ends of which are notched to fit over the bars A A. The tension of the spring E is regulated by a screw 6 extending through the block C.
The adjacent faces of the jaws B B are provided with V-shaped centering recesses b b for the pin to'be turned and trued and the opposite face of the movable jaw B is provided with a smaller V-shaped recess and so the centering of diiferent sized crank pins is provided for by merely reversing the position of the movable jaw B.
The fixed jaw B is provided with a radial cutter-slot b which opens into the V-shaped groove 6 just a little to one side of its angle so that the edge d of the cutter D will work .on the crank pin toJee trued directlyin the center line a between the two jaws. The cutter D is adjusted by parallel screws 01 (13 passing through the fixed jaw B and bearing on the rear endof said cutter. The cutter is clamped in its adjusted position by a transverse set-screw cl extending through bar A into engagement with the side of the cutter. Oil holes a extend through the fixed jaw to points near the edge of cutter D to supply same with 'oil at the cutting point.
To apply'the tool to a crank pin simply remove the screws 12 and withdraw the block' or cross piece C, spring E and sliding jaw B. Then placethe frame or stock over the crank pin, replace the jaw B, spring E, block or cross piece C and screws 6 By now adjusting the cutter D and the tension of spring E the tool may be rotated around the crank pin until it has become properly trued.., The crank shaft to be operated upon will be held rigidly by any suitable holder, I

' Where a cutter is fed direct to the sur-- face of a crank pin held between two fixed jaws of a tool it is necessary to make the full cut of the feed in a single revolution of the tool, which requires great exertion, depending upon the extent of the feed, but inour tool having the spring-pressed jaw a heavier feed may be made and the entire cut will be taken with-possibly a half dozen revolutions, and this results in much better work.
The tool may be made in different sizes and various changes may be made without departing from the scope of our invention.
What we claim is:

A tool for turning and truing crank pins comprising parallel oppositely extending handle bars, inner and outer rectangular jaws mounted between said handle bars and having registering work centering recesses in their adjacent faces, the inner jaw being adjustable withrespect to the outer'jaw, a cutter mounted in the fixed jaw, a removable crossbar between the handle bars beyondthe adjustable jaw, screws extending through the handle bars into the ends of said cross- I .bar a'nd a'set-screw extending through the Q crossbar.
