To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL J. Renee, a citizen of the United States, residing at Overton, in the county of Dawson and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hand-Stamps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hand stamps, and has for its chief object the provision of a device of this character embodying a member constituting a support for one or more type strips, for use in con unct1on with the stamp, whereby certain indicia in addition to the date may be printed upon the object to be stamped.

In carrying out the invention, the member constituting the support for the type strip, is so disposed relative to the base of the stamp proper, that the said type strips are normally held spaced from the object to be stamped when the stamp proper is brought into stamping position upon the object, thus providing for the printing of the date only. However the disposition of the parts are such that subsequent to the printing of the date, the stamp proper may be slightly tilted to bring the type strips into engagement with the object to be stamped, whereby the additional indicia is printed upon the surface.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood from the following description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure l is a side elevation of the stamp constructed in accordance with my invention showing the printing position of the stamp proper.

Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the position of the stamp for printing additional indicia.

Fig. 3 is an impression from the stamp attachment.

Referring more particularly to the drawing in detail the stamp proper is indicated generally at A, and embodies a frame 10, in which are arranged a plurality of type bands 11 in the usual order, the bands being trained over drums 12, and a base or'bridge Specification of Letters Patent.

piece 13, in the manner whereby the bands are rotated by the thumb wheels 14. It is to be understood that a stamp constructed in this manner is old and Well known, and consequently forms no part of my invent1on.

In connection with a stamp of this character, I make use of a member or bracket 15 for supporting one or more type strips 16, whereby additional indicia maybe printed upon the object to be stamped, along side of the date, which latter is impressed upon the stamp proper. As shown in this ispecific instance the member or bracket 1*" is substantially V-shaped, and projects la erally from one side of the frame 10 of the stamp proper. The member 15 may vary in size to accommodate any number of type strips 16, these strips by preference being arranged in parallelism along the lowermost branch of the member 15. It will be observed that the lowermost branch 15' of the member is so disposed with respect to the base of the stamp proper, that when the stamp is arranged in printing position the lower branch 15 is spaced from the object being stamped, thus enabling the stamp to be used without impressing upon the object being stamped the indicia supported by the lower branch 15 of the member 15. However when it is desired to use the attachment, the stamp subsequent to being arranged in stamping position, is tilted to one side in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2 to bring the type strip 16 into engagement with the object being stamped. While it is stated that the member 15 is substantially of V-shaped formation, the contour or design of this member may bevaried, providing the portion supporting the type strips 16 is angularly disposed with respect to the basebf the stamp for the purpose above mentioned. As shown in Fig. 3 the type strips embody indicia indicative of a certain locality in some particular State, but this indicia of course may be varied at will without departing from the spirit of the invention.

While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that what is herein shown and described is merely illustrative of. the preferred embodiment of the invention, to which I do not limit myself,
