CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 29, 1917.
Application filed September 20, 1915. Serial No. 51,509.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR D. KAUB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mongo, in the county of Lagrange and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cabinets, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention relates to improvements in cabinets, and the object thereof is the production of a cabinet for holding medical supplies, books, phonograph music records, or the like, wherein pivoted shelves are used to gain easy access and a maximum of shelf space.
On the drawings Figure 1 is a section taken transversely, or in a horizontal plane, through a cabinet embodying my invention showing the brackets and shelves within the cabinet body; Fig. 2 is a reduced fragmentary view showing the cabinet front, the open cabinet door, and brackets and shelf members swung from within the cabinet; and Fig. 3 is a section in fragment on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Similar numerals refer to similar members and parts of members throughout the several views and figures on the drawings.
On the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a cabinet composed of the cabinet back 2, the cabinet sides 3 and 41, and provided with the door opening 5. Any suitable cabinet top and bottom, or none at all, may be used. None are shown in the drawings as they involve no part of my invention. The numeral 6 designates a cabinet door pivotally mounted upon the cabinet by the hinge member 7. The cabinet body and door may be made of any suitable material, although either wood or metal is preferred.
The numeral 8 designates an upright bracket member pivotally mounted upon the cabinet interior and hinged thereto by the hinge member 9 fastened to the cabinet corner member 10, adapted to be swung in and out of the cabinet through the door opening 5. The numeral 11 designates a smaller upright bracket member pivotally mounted upon the end of the bracket 8 and fastened thereto by a hinge member 12, or
a plurality thereof, and adapted tobe swung with bracket 8 in and out of the cabinet through the door opening 5. When within the cabinet, the brackets 8 and 11 are arranged adjacent the cabinet side 4 or even in contact therewith.
The numeral 13 designates a shelf member pivotally mounted upon the side of the bracket 8 by a hinge 14 at a point intermediate the hinges 9 and 12 but preferably more adjacent the former. The numeral 15 designates a double shelf member pivotally mounted upon the outer end of bracket 11 by the hinge 16 and is adapted to swing in a horizontal plane like the shelf member 13. The frame of the double shelf member 15 is composed of the upright end members 17 17 secured to the upright frame connection 18 at opposite ends thereof at about the center of the opposing faces of 17, 17.
Upon opposite sides of member 18 is a plurality of shelves 19, 19'arranged in a plura-lity of rows on each side of member 18 and secured to the end member 17, 17 or to both members 17, 17 and member 18 if necessary, in any suitable manner.
The frame of shelf member 13 is composed of the upright end bracket members 20, 20 secured in any suitable manner to the upright connecting member 21 at opposite ends thereof and projecting laterally therefrom toward shelf member 15.
The numeral 22 designates a shelf carried by member 13 and secured to the brackets 20, 20 in any suitable manner, or to both members 20 and member 21. Preferably there is a plurality of shelves 22 in parallel rows on one side of the member 21.
The numerals 23, 23 designate shelf brackets secured to the inner face of the door 6 and projecting laterally therefrom. Mounted upon the bracket members 23 isa shelf 24: secured thereto in any suitable manner, a plurality of which are preferably provided and carried by the door 6 and secured to the brackets 23 in parallel rows.
I claim:
1. The combination with a cabinet body,
'of a bracket pivotally mounted within the cabinet; a shelf bearing member pivotally mounted upon said bracket and having its mount spaced from the wall of the cabinet;
a second bracket pivotally mounted upon ber pivotally mounted upon said bracket intermediate its extremities; a second bracket pivotally mounted upon and adjacent the extremity of the first 'mentioned bracket; and a shelf bearing member pivotally mounted upon and adjacent the extremity'of said second bracket, said shelf bearing members adapted to be swung back and forth through the cabinet door upon said brackets.
' In wltness whereof I have hereunto affixed my slgnature 1n the presence/of tWo w1tnesses.
ARTHUR D. KAUB.
