BOX FASTENER.

ATTORNEY IBOX-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 29, 191W.
Application filed May 14, 1915. Serial No. 28,081.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. Dnmoonnrna, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Defiance, in the county of Defiance and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Box-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved box fastener for metal cases more especially designed for containing bottles filled with milk, beer, soft drinks or other liquids, and arranged to provide an exceedingly strong and durable construction to readily withstand rough usage to which cases of this type are subjected while in use.
In order to produce the desired result, use is made of a box body having a cover provided with a keeper engaged by a spring catch carried by said body and adapted to be operated by a push-button constructed and arranged in the box body in a novel manner.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a section of a box or case having the improvement applied thereto.
Referring to the drawing A is a metal case or box having a hinged cover E and F is a rack within the case or box for holding bottles.
The under side of the cover E is provided near its front end with a keeper L adapted to be engaged by a spring catch L fastened to the inner face of the front B. On the spring catch L is secured a button L extending forwardly through an opening B formed in the front B so that the button If extends to the outside and can be readily pressed on by the user of the box for disengaging the catch L from the keeper L whenever it is desired to swing the cover E into an open position. The inner portion L of the button L is somewhat enlarged to abut against the inner face of the front B thus limiting the closing movement of the spring catch L. A limiting stop L is attached to the inner face of the front B to limit the inward swinging movement of the spring catch L whenever the button If is pressed. The outwardly projecting portion of the button L is provided with a hole L for the passage of a plumb or seal to lock the cover E in closed position against surreptitious opening by unauthorized persons. In order to permit of conveniently swinging the cover E into open position, use is made of a finger hole E formed in the cover so that the user can readily insert a finger to swing the cover open at the time the push button L is pressed inward and the spring catch L is disengaged from the keeper L. l/Vhile the fastener is shown applied to a metal case or box designed for holding bottles, it will be understood that it is equally as applicable to cases or boxes in general.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A case having an opening in its front wall and provided with a keeper on its inner face at a distance from its free edge, a catch in the form of a spring having its lower end secured to the inner face of the case, the spring inclining inwardly and upwardly and having its free end bent outwardly and downwardly to form a hook shaped member for engaging the keeper, a push button secured to the catch and having its outer end reduced forming a shoulder thereon, the reduced end extending out through the opening of the case and the shoulder abutting against the inner face of the casing and limiting the outward movement of the catch, and a stop on the inner face of the casing and limiting the inward movement of the said catch.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
