To attic/tom it with concern;
Be itknownthatl, JoHN inthc county of Shaw-vane and State'of l/Visfollowin is a soecification. reference bein D b had therein totheaccompanying drawing' The invention relatesto urinals and has;
for its objectthe provision of a device of the kind set forth which will be automatically flushed during the time in .which a person is in closeproilimity to thesame. I
A. further object fiof the invention is to provide means for fiushingthe device which may be easily removed so as to give acccss to the floor for cleaning purposes.
Another object of the invention consists in providing mechanism which may be quickly installed andhpplied to devices already in use. i
It forms also an object of the invention to provide certain features of construction and arrangement whereby the desirability and effectiveness of a device of this character are enhanced.
WVith these and other objects in view, which will be apparent as 'the' description proceeds, the preferred embodiment .of the invention consists of the novel arrangement of parts described in the following specification and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. In the accompanying draw- 111g,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device to which the invention has been applied.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the platform and thevalve actuating means, and
Fi 4 is a section on line -11 of Fig. 2, showing one of the adjustingscrews.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view of a push valve used in connection with this invention.
In the drawing, 1 designates a receptacle of known construction and made of suitable material which is secured to the wall 2. From a source of water supply a pipe 3 leads to a valve 41 arranged close to the floor, and a pipe 5 connected to the outlet end of the valve communicates with the upper end of the receptacle, so that water, the flow of which is controlled by valve 4, is projected in streams into the receptacle to flush the same. The valve l is of the push valve type S'rAszAK, a citizen of the United States, residing atPu laski;
and includes a stem 6 projecting therefrom adapted to be forced lnwardly aga nst a valvedisk 4 and tension of spring a in orderto permit-the passage of water through the valve; A platform 7, arranged at suitable distance from the wall 2,is equipped with pins 8 on each side [adapted to en ter slots of floor brackets .9 whereby the platformis tiltably mounted for a purpose hereinafter set forth. At the opposite end of the platform springs 11 are arranged at each side which surround a lug 10 at the under side of the platform, and a simi-' i211 lug 10" secured to the Wall so as to maintain the spring constantly in operative position. It is apparent, that the end of the platform adjacent thedeviceis maintained in raisedposition' and is only forced down when weight or pressure is applied thereto.
Adj acent the springs 11 adjusting screws 12 are provlded which threade'dly engage a bushing 13 provided in the platform. By adjusting the screw 12 the range of movement of the platform may be varied within narrow limits. At the upper side of the platform a plate '14 is secured which is formed integral with an ear adapted to enter a clevis 15. A pin 16 projecting through the clevis secures the same to the ear of plate 14. A rod 17 is secured to the clevis or formed integral therewith, and its opposite end is threaded to receive a head or cupshaped member 18 which is provided with a knurled portion 19 to permit adjustment of the member 18 on the rod 17. The forward end of the member 18 is recessed, as at 20, to receive the projecting end of the valve stem 6. j
The operation of the device will be apparent from the foregoing description. The person approaching the device is forced to step upon the platform which under this weight is pressed downwardly until the lug 1 0 abuts the lug 10. Due to this movement a rod 17 receives a slight movement toward the wall in which the valve stem 6 participates to open the valve disk 4, and water may freely pass through the pipe 5 into the receptacle to flush the same. As soon as the person leaves the platform a spring 11 forces the forward end of the platform upwardly, whereby the cup-shaped member 18 is retracted and the valve stem 6 is forced outwardly under the influence of a spring 4: located Within the valve casing. A. tri
angularly shaped piece 21 is arranged in front of the platform so as to facilitate stepping on the latter and to prevent a per son from being tripped by the lower edge of the platform.
It is quite frequent that the floor becomes soiled and wet, and for this reason it is desirable that the mechanism provided in front of the device should be easily removable, so
as not to interfere with a person cleaning the floor. To this end the platform 7 may be swung about the pins 8 to a positionindicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3, in which the cup-shaped member is sufiiciently retracted to entirely clear the valve stem 6. Thereupon the platform may be withdrawn from the floor brackets 9 and may be removed until the floor has been cleaned. It is not my intention to confine myself to the precise details shown by way of example in the drawing, but I want to avail myself rather of any departures, changes or alteration which fairly fall Within the scope of the invention, as defined by the appended claims. I claim 1. In a device of the type set forth, a receptacle, a pipe leading into said receptacle, a push valve controlling the flow of Water through said pipe, a tiltably mountedplatform detachably secured, a rod pivotally secured to the platform, and a cup-shaped member secured to said rod and adapted to actuate said valve.
2. In a device of the type set forth, a receptacle, a pipe leading into said receptacle, a push valve controlling the flow of water through said pipe, a tiltably mounted platform detachably secured, a rod pivotally secured to the platform, and a cup-shaped member adjustably secured to said rod and adapted to actuate said valve. I
3. In a device of the kind set forth, a receptacle, a pipe leading into said receptacle, a push valve controlling the flow of water through said pipe, a tiltably mounted platform, resilient means for maintaining the platform in raised position, means for varying the range of movement of said platform, a rod pivotally secured to the platform, and a cup-shaped member adjustably secured to said rod and adapted to actuate said valve, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
JOHN STASZAK.
