Description

PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM WESTLAKE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
iMPRovEMEN-r IN wAsH-BowLs.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 122,089, dated December 19, 1871.
Io all whom 'it may concer-n:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WEsTLAnE, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in VVash-Bowls, ot which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this'specification, in which- Figure l is a top View; Fig. 2, a Vertical seetion without the lining; Fig. 3, a vertical section with the lining; Fig. 4, a vertical section ol' the lining.
My object is to manufacture a cheap but durable wash-basin for common use; and it consists in providing the interior, or a portion thereof, of a common Washbasin with a lining which will resist the action of soap and Water more eectually than the basin itself. Common wasbbasins are noW usually made of tin stamped up, and theT very soon wear out or rust out.
In the drawing, A represents a common tin basin. a is a lining of thin sheet metal; brass or copper may be used-I prefer copperand as the verdigris which forms on copper injuriously affects tin, it is ladvisable to use sheet copper which has been tinned on one side, at least, plac-A ing the tinned side in contact with the basin. This lining need not extend up but a short distance, as seen in thedrawing, as the wear is at or near the bottom of the basin. stamped or spun up in the exact forni ofthe basin into which it is to be placed, and is soldered in place most conveniently by the process known to the trade as sweating A little solder ma)T be placed on the bottoni ofthe basin beneath the lining, to render it more iirm and secure at that point.
The completed basin will benearly as durable as a basin Wholly of copper, and will be much l less expensive.
NVbat I claim as new is as follows: As a new article of manufacture, a wash-basin having its body composed of tin, with a thin sheet of non-corrosive metal solderedover the inner surface of its bottom, substantially as described.
