To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED T. HILL, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook,

. State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Clasps, of which the following is a specification. 7

This invention relates to that class of garment clasps that are carried on a depending strap, and are adapted for detachable engagement with a stocking or other like article to hold the same in place. And the present improvement has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation and association of parts whereby a strong and eflicient holding engagement with the garment to be supported, is had, and by means of which a gradual disengagement of the parts, by the movements of the wearer in actual use, is effectively prevented, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the accompanying drawing Figure 1, is an elevation of a garment clasp embodying the preferred form of the invention.

Referring to the drawing, 1 represents the main body of the clasp having at one end means for connection to a supporting strip, as for instance, the rectangular buckle 2, common to the present class of garment clasps.

In the present improvement the main body 1 of the clasp, has a tapering form and is provided with a pair of opposed marginal flanges 3, which are curved toward the median line of the main body 1 to provide an open front receiving and holding recess or throat for a portion of the garment to be held. It is a material part of the present invention that said holding flanges 3 have a tapering relation toward each other wlth their lower ends in closer relation than their upper ends.

5 designates a flexible connection attached to the upper end of the flat wedge piece 4, and to the upper portion of the main body 1 of the clasp, to form a connection between said parts, to prevent loss of the wedge piece and at the same time permit a proper manipulation of the same. In this connection a material part of the present improvement comprises a formation of the aforesaid wedge piece 4 of a height much less than the height of its associated wedge shape cavity in the main body 1, as formed by the marginal flanges 3. Said structural proportion of parts has been formed by extended practical use to entirely eliminate the usual tendency of a wedge piece to gradually .work loose when made of an extended height, either in itself or by a rigid fixed extension on the wedge piece. It has also been found that the flexible connection 5 of the present structure, while affording a ready means for detaching the wedge piece when required,

does not interfere with the permanency of the attachment in actual use.

In the practical use of the present clasp as a stocking supporter,the main body of the clasp is placed beneath the upper por tion of the stocking, after which the flat Wedge piece 4, is placed in front of said upper portion of the stocking and pressed down into the upper portion of the tapering throat or recess formed by the flanges 3 of the main body of the clasp, and with the material of the stocking between the parts. The user by then pushing the flat wedge piece 4 downward insaid throat or recess, causes the parts to very effectively engage the folds formed in the stocking during the operations just described.
