Description

F. s. DILTHEY.
LAMP HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 28' I916.
Patented Mar. 6,1917.
UNITED sTA'rEs PALIENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK G. DILTHEY, 0F KERNVILLE, CALIFORNIA.
LAMP-HOLDER.
and State of California, have invented'new' and useful Improvements in Lamp-l'iolders, of winch the following is a speclficatlon.
The invention relates to a holder, and more particularly to the class of ad ustable holders for flash lights or lamps.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character wherein the flash light or lamp can be adjusted and suspended in a novel manner so as to be useful to automobilists, garage men, machinists or for use in shops generally so that the light will be positioned in proximity to the part worked upon and thereby eliminate the necessity of holding the light by hand as is usual.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character wherein the lamp can be readily fastened therein and adjusted in any desired position for the convenience of the user.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicicnt in its purpose. readily and easily adjusted, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described. and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder constructed in accordance with the invention. showing the flash lamp therein;
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken approximately centrally of the holder;
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the adjustable arm;
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented Mar. a, 1917.
Application filed October 28, 1916. Serial No. 128,273.
]Fig. 4 is a perspective. view of the lamp c1 gimilar reference characters indicate cor responding parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the holder comprises a segmental shaped plate 5 formed at its straight edge with a flange (i at right angles thereto and preferably bent from the plate, while in the circular edge of the plate at intervals thereof are notches 7, and to this flange is adjustably connected medially thereof a lamp clip hereinafter fully described. i
The lamp clip comprises a rigid strip or bar 8 to which are riveted or otherwise fastened resilient yokes 9 which form spring clips for the detachable mounting therein of an electric flash light or lamp 10, although any other style of lamp can be mounted therein if desired. The strip or bar 8 centrally thereof is formed with a threaded stud 11 which is loosely passed through the flange 6, and this stud carries a. nut 12 so that the strip or bar 8 can be fastened in its adjusted position on the flange.
Pivoted to the segmental shaped plate 5 centrally thereof is a flexible or resilient arm 13 formed at its outer free end with a cross head ll to which is loosely connected a suspension chain 15 adapted to be fastened at any point for the suspending of the lamp. Also connected to this cross head 14 of the arm 13 is a loosely supported hook 16 which is adapted to engage in any one of the links for preventing the swinging of the flash light after adjustment thereof and also to vary the disposition of the same when in suspended position.
The arm 13 is formed With a nib or lip 17 which is adapted to engage in any one of the notches 7 so as to angularly lock the clip carrying the flash light or hold the same in either perpendicular or horizontal position as the occasion may require.'
The holder is designed particularly for use by automobilists, garage men, machinists, mechanics or generally in machine shops so as to hold the flash light or lamp in position whereby the worker Will have the required light for the execution of work, thereby eliminating the necessity of holding the flash light or lamp by hand, as is usual.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the hereindescribed light holder will be readily apparent and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A holder of the character described comprising a segmental shaped plate, a flash light clip adjustably connected with the plate, suspension, means pivotally connected with the plate, and means on the suspension means for locking engagement with the plate.'
2. A holder of the character described comprising a segmental shaped plate having an out-turned flange at right angles thereto, an arm pivotally connected with the plate, means on the arm for locking engagement With the plate to hold said arm in its adjusted position, a suspension chain connected with the arm, a hook on the arm for engagement in any one of the links of the chain, and a light or lamp clip adjustably connected with the flange.
3. A. holder of the character described embodying a plate. a flash light clip adjustably connected with said plate and suspension means connected with said plate.
4. A holder of the character set forth, a segmental plate provided with a series of notches, a flash light clip adjustahly connected with said plate, suspension means connected with said plate, and means on the suspension means for engagement in the notches of the plate to lock the clip in various adjusted positions.
5. A holder of the character set forth, a
segmental plate provided with a. series of
