SHUTTLE-WINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pategntedl eb; 20, 1917,
Application filed May 12, 1916. Serial No. 97,097.
This invention relates to a device for winding thread upon tatting shuttles, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a shuttle winder, which is compact in structure, and which has a shuttle holder rotatably supported by a suitable supporting structure, which shuttle holder is constructed of a pair of telescoping sections, so that it may be adjusted for holding any size of tatting shuttle.
A further object of this invention is to provide a support for the rotary shuttle holder, which is provided with a pocket in one end of the same for receiving a shuttle.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which z- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved shuttle winder showing parts thereof in section.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the shuttle winder.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the shuttle winder exhibiting the side opposite to the one illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view through the shuttle holder and a portion of the support; ing post therefor.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line.5-'5 of Fig. 2, and j Fig. 6 is a section on the line 66 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the supporting body of the shuttle winder as an entirety, which is tion by an ordinary latch'structure 4. The
pocket 2 is provided for retaining a shuttle, when not in use.
The body 1 has a stub shaft .5 carried thereby upon which a gear 6 is mounted. The gear 6 has a handle 7 attached thereto, through the medium of which the gear is manually rotated. A pinion 8 meshes with the gear 6, and it is mounted upon a shaft 9, which shaft extends entirely through the supporting post or body 1 of the shuttle winder, and has the shuttle holding device 10 mounted upon its end remote from the end upon which the pinion Sis mounted;
The shuttle holder structure comprises a body plate 11, which has a casing 12 which is formed of sheet metal mounted about one end of the same, and a'second casing 13 I mounted about the other end of the same and telescopically mounted over the casing 12. The casings 12 and 13 have outwardly extending or projecting lips 15 formed thereon, adjacent their ends and substantially equi-distant of their sides, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. The lips 15 form pockets, for receiving the ends of a tatting shuttle. The telescoping of the section or casing 13 with the casing 12 will permit of the attachment of different size tatting shuttles'to the shuttle carrier 10. 1
A bail member 16 is pivotally supported as shown at 17, by the body 1 and it has its ends inturnecl as shown at 18 for insertion into the central bore of a spool as indicated at 19. The spool 19 is of the ordinary type used for retaining thread or the like, and the thread is unwound from the spool 19 and wound upon a shuttle carried by the shuttle carrier 10. A thread guide 1. In a tatting shuttle winder structure,
abody, a gear rotatably carried by said body, a shaft extending through said body, a pinion mounted upon said shaft and meshing with said gear, a shuttle carrying member carried by said shaft and including a body, and a pair of telescoping casings mounted upon said body, said casings being provided With outstruck portions for forming pockets for receiving the ends of a shuttle, a spool holder pivotally connected to said body, and a thread guard carried by said body for guiding the thread from a spool mounted upon said spool holder to a shuttle carried by said shuttle carrying structure.
2. In a tatting shuttle winder structure,
a body, a gear rotatably carried by said body, a shaft extending through said body, a pinion mounted upon said shaft and meshing with said gear, a shuttle carrying member carried by said shaft and including a body, and a pair of telescoping casings mounted'upon said body, said casing being provided with outstruck portions for forming pockets for receiving the ends of a shuttle, a spool holder pivotally connected to said body, and a 'threa'dguard carried by said body for guiding the thread from a spool mounted upon said spool holder to a shuttle carried by said shuttle carrying structure, said body being provided with a shuttle receiving pocket extending upwardly from its lower end, and a hinged cover normally forming a closure for said pocket. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
