T all wwm z't may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. IIARP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bufialo, in the county of Leon and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Chicken-Coop, 'of WhiCh the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to chicken coops, and aims to provide a novel and improved chicken coop Which Will 'be sanitary and provided with novel means to exclude insects, snakes, rats and other rodents.
Another object of the invention is to provide a chicken coop constructed of plastic or other suitable material and embodying a novel assemblage of the component elements, and having novel means therein for the nests.
It is also the object of the invention to provide a structure of the nature indicated Which is simple and inexpensive in construction, the parts of Which can be readily separated for cleaning, and which is practical and satisfactory in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view Which Will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter desribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, Wherein:
Figure 1 is a front view of the 000p. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof with the cover or top removed. Fig. 3 is a diametric'al section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention there 'is provided a base 1 of circular or other suitable contour and formed of suitable plastic material, which is also true of the other parts of the coop, although various materials can be used. The base 1 is prqvided With an annular rabbet 2 providing a seat for an upright cylindrical body 3 forming the annular or continuons wall of the coop, and the rabbet 2 provides a shoulder 4 around Which the body 8 fits to hold it in concentric position upon the base.
The base is provided with an annular trough or moat 5 surrounding the seat 2 and which is filled with Water, so that the moat Will exclude-insects, vermin, rodents, and the like, from the inclosure or chamber of the ooop, and urthermore, the moat Will hold water for the chickens t0 drink from. The surface of the base is preferably beveled or sloped off, as at 6, surrounding the moat or trough 5- whereby the overfiow water can readily fl0W to the gronnd from the moat or trough, and the provision of the beveled or sloped portion 6 also prevents the vermin or rodents from jumping across the moat.
The body 3 is provided with an annular series of ventilating openings 7 adjacent to its upper edge, and the upper edge of said body has an enter bevel 8 for shedding water. A circular top or cover 9 fits within the upper edge of the body 3 and is provided with an annular fiange 10 seating upon the upper edge of the body. The cover 9 sheds water to the sides of the coop.
A crescent-shaped or arcuate member 11 is seated upon the base and fits the body 3, said member 11 being sloped outwardly, as at 12, to provide an arcuate space for the nests. Thebody 3 is provided with a lower opening 13 for the passage et the chickens into and out of (:0019, and outside of the opening 13 thebody has a eut away portion providing a ohordal surface 14 against which a door 15 is fitted for horizontal sliding movement npon the base. The body 3 has a chordal groove 16 extending above the opening or doorway 13 slidably receiving the upper edge of the door, and the base 1 has a groove 17 below and parallcl 'with the groove 16 for slidably receiving the lower edge of the door. The door has suitable means 18 whereby it can be conveniently slid open and closed.
1. A chcken coop embodyng an annular body, and an arcuate member fitting the' same and sloped outwardly to provide a space for nescs.
2. A chicken 000p embodying a base, 2111 annular body seated thereon, and a crescent' CHARLES A. HARP.
