SIDNEY FISHER, F WEST DANBY, NEW YORK.
WINDOW-SCREEN.
To all whom if) may concern Be it known that I, SIDNEY FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Danby, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Window-Screen, of which the following is a specification. v
The object of my invention is to provide an improved window screen that can be put in thewindow with one hand; to provide a screen which cannot be removed from the outside; to provide a. screen that will not j rattle when the wind blows; and to provide i cn a screen that is very simple in construction. I attain, lthe objects of my invention by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan of the entire screen; Fig. 2 is a top or edge view of the screen showing the position it takes when being placed in the window or removed from the window; and Fig. 3 is a detail of one of the screen members showing lthe slotted hinges.
Like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the' accompanying drawin s, I provide a screen member consisting o a screen frame 1 and screening 2, frame 2 having a handle 11 and opposite suitably spacedy orifices 3. I further provide a coacting or companion screen member comprising screen frame 4 and screening 5, the latter screen member being provided with suitable hin es 7 j having hlnge straps 6 provided wlth slotted portions 8, adapted to receive bolts 9, which project through corresponding orifices 3 inframe 1 of the companion screen member, bolts 9 being relcasably fastened in 4 place by thumb nuts 1 0, as illustrated.
The screen can readily be placed in position in a window with one hand by grasping handle 11, and inserting the screen as illustrated in Fig. 2. The right hand end of frame 4 is placed against the stop of the window. f Then by drawing the screen into the osition shown in Fig. 2 it will be shortene then by pushing it in until it becomes flat it will fit snugly In place.
The screen may be adjusted to fit any width. of 'window" by inserting bolts 9 through the proper orifices 3. to give ap- -Specication if Ietters Patent.

proximatelvthewidth desired. By further adjusting the screen by means of slotted portions 8 in hinge straps G relative to bolts 9,
the screen can be made to fit the window just snug enough so that it will not rattle.
What I claim is: i
1. A foldable screenl adapted to be inserted and removed with one hand, and comprising a plurality of screen frame members, one ofthe screen frame members overlappingn the other, hinge straps attached to the second screen member, means adjustablyV engaging the straps to any one of several overlapped positions on the first screen member, the overlapping screen frame having a handle affixed to its upright portion, to permit of easy manipulation of the screen with one hand. Y
2. A screen member having a handle mounted on its frame portion, and having opposite orifices correspondingly positioned in its upper and bottom frame portions, a second screen member overlapping the first screen member, hinges attached to the second screen member, said hinges having slotted strapy members,'and ad'ustable fastening means for securing the a. oresaid strap members in the desired adjusted position to the first screen member, :for thepurposes described.
3.` A screen member having a plurality of spaced correspondingly positioned orifices in its upper and bottom frame portions, a handle member on the aforesaid screen member, a second screen member having a portion thereof overlapping the first lscreen member, hinges secured to the second screen member, the kfree stra-ps of said hinges yhaving slotted portions, manually adjustable fastening means adjustably securingv the slotted straps in the desired adjusted rela-- tion to any of the plurality of orificed portions of the first screen, whereby to permit of manipulating the screen with one hand, to permit of its accurate adjustment to prevent rattling and to prevent its bein removed from thewindow from the outside.
