COMBINED CURTAIN AND SHADE FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1916.
Application filed September 27, 1915. Serial No. 52,912.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Curtain and Shade Fixtures; and I dodeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in combination curtain and shade fixtures, and has for its object to provide an extremely efi icient device of this character which because of its simplicity of construction may be very inexpensively manufactured.
A further object is to provide a device which will support either one or two curtain poles in addition' to the shade roller.
WVith the foregoing general objects in view, my invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will hereinafter be more particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 represents a-perspective view showing the position assumed by the parts when supporting a pair of curtain poles; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing one curtain pole being sup ported by the fixture.
In the accompanying drawing is shown my improved fixture applied toa portion of a window frame 1.
The fixture comprises an attaching foot 2 by which the device may be applied to the window frame, a right angular arm 3 being formed integrally at one edge of said foot and projecting laterally therefrom. One portion 4: of this arm extends outwardly and preferably at right angles to the window frame 1 and has formed on its upper edge a notch 5 adapted to receive one end of a shade roller (not shown). While I have shown but one fixture having therein a notch or slot 5, it is obvious that the cooperating fixture has a round opening in its arm to receive the trunnion of the shade roller. The other portion 6 of the right angular arm 3 has formed integrally with its free end, a main pole support 7 which has a notch 8 formed therein to receive a curtain pole. As it may be desired to use poles of different diameters, at different times, I provide an additional notch 9 of slightly smaller size than the notch 8 as shown. The upright arms 10 which are formed by the notch 8 are of suificient length to easily support any pole, one of said arms, preferably the outermost, bemg provided with an aperture adapted to receive a pivot pin 11 which carries a supplemental pole support 12 having notches 13 and 14 in its upper edge similar to the notches 8 and 9. A laterally projecting stop 15 is formed on one edge of the supplemental support 12 and is adapted to abut the outer edge of the outermost arm 10 when said supplemental support is swung outwardly as shown in Fig. 1.
It is obvious that when the user of this fixture desires to support apair of curtain poles, the supplemental support is swung to its extended position as shown in the aforementioned figure, and that when one pole is to be supported, the supplemental support is swung over the main support and the curtain pole therein. Should it become necessary, the supplemental arm, when only one pole is used, may be forced downwardly to clamp the curtain pole between one of the notches in its edge and the main support.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a very neat and efficient fixture which will support either one or two poles with equal facility.
While I have described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that certain changes in the form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from, or sacrificing any of the principles of this invention.
I claim as my invention:
A combined shade and curtain fixture comprising an attaching foot, an arm extending therefrom, a main pole support on the free end of said arm, and a supplemental pole support pivoted thereto, said supplemental support being adapted to be swung outwardly when the device is used with two poles, or swung over the main support when the device is used with one pole.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DANIEL JONES. Witnesses:
JOHN M. Puoonvn, HARRY C. WAGNER.
