HNGE FOR SILO-DOORS."
insegna.
.Application filed April 17, 1915.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that lf, CHARLES S. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Mount Vernon, in the county of Skagit and the vState of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hinges for Silo- Doors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to silo doors and consists of an improved construction of the hinged supporting and controlling members.
The object of my invention is to provide a hinge for silo doors which will permit the door being moved bodily inward and then swung about against the inner face of the silo wall alongside the door opening.
rhe scope of my invention will be defined by the claims.
ln the accompanying drawings l have shown my invention in the form which is preferred by me.
Figure l is an exterior face view of the door in closed position. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation and Fig. 3 a sectional plan of the door in its open position.
rlhe door opening is preferably outlined by frame 2 of iron, the inner faces of which may be made smooth and true. l provide two hinges by which the door is supported at one vertical edge. Each of these hinges is a double hinge,`that-is consists of two leaves 30 and 3l, hinged together by a pin 33. One of these leaves, as 30, swings upon a pin 32 which is supported from the j amb or door casing. rlhe other end of the other leaf 31, engages pin 34 which connects it with the outer face of the door l, adjacent one edge of the door. ylhe leaf 36 with which the corresponding end of the other swinging leaf 30 ispivoted is secured to the outer part of the door casing.
"With each of the hinges as above described a controlling member 5 is employed. rlhis consists of a link which is pivoted by one end upon the pin 34 and its other end is fXedly pivoted, as at 50, to the door casing preliminary Specification of Letters Patent.

the door, as is shown in Fig. l. To open the n door it is pushed inward, the leaves 30 and 3l of the hinges swinging into a position illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. In this position, the door may be swung upon the hinged pivots 311-, into fully open position. To facilitate handling` the door it may be provided with rings or hand holds, as 6.
By the above expedient the hinges may be kept entirely upon the outer surface of the door and casing, leaving the edges of the door and the inner faces of the casing, free of all attachments. Also the angle of inclination of these edge surfaces may be kept small so as to insure a thoroughly tight joint, while permitting a preliminary inner movement of the door bodilyl before the swinging action commences.`
Having thus described my invention what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A hinge support for silo doors com prising two members hinged to each other at one end, and at their other end respectively to a door jamb and to the corresponding door edge, and a third member having hinged connection with the same edge of the door and with a distant fixed point located toward the opposite side of the door opening.l
2. A hinge support for silo doors comprising two hinged leaves pivoted to each other and respectively upon the door jamb and upon the door face adjacent the corresponding edge of the door, and a third mem` ber having a hinged connection of one end common with the hinged connection of the other member with the door and a xed pivot support for its opposite end adjacent the opposite door jamb.
3. A hinged support for silo doors comprising a bar pivoted to the door jamb ad- `iacent one edge of the door and extending Signed at Mount Vernon, aShington, across the door opening, the door being this 8th day of April 1915.
pivoted to swin upon the other or free end w L f of said bar andan support for the same side (JHRLES S TAX LOB" of the door permitting` a limited movement Vitnesses: of this Side of the door inward away from VILLIAM COLEMAN, the casing. JAMES M. BOWERS.
