Be it known that Luo C. lliunncurcoi, a citizen of the United States, residing at -Elk Park, in the county of Jefferson and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Slioe-Fanteners, of which the following is a Specification.
This invention relates to shoe' fasteners, and one of the principal objects nl' the invention is to provide a shoe fastener of simple construction which may" hc fornied entirely of leather or other lexihlc u'iaterial and thus eliminating the use of i'netai as any part of the fastening device.
Another' object of the invention is to prou vide a shoe fastener which shall he simple and quick to fasten and quick` to unfasten and which will present a goed appearance without the use of metal eyelets, hooks or other fasteners.
Still another object of the invention is to'v provide a simple shoe fastening which can be used 1n heu of buttons at the outer sides ofthe upper portion of the shoe, or which can be used at the instep in lieu ot laces.
These and other objects may be attained. by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the left shoe showing a fastener niade in accordance with this invention and the vamp portion of the shoe broken away. Fig. is a sectional view tekenen the line 2*-2 of Figi l, and Fig. fis a horizontal sectioutaken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
,Referring to the drawing, the numeral 'L designates a sole,:2 the heel, 3 the quarter, 4
the vamp and 5 the upper of a shoe which may be of the usual. or any suitable construetion. ,As shown in the drawing, the shoe is provided with an ankle opening formed 'on' a curved line ysimilar to the ordinary i button shoe, and connected to'the back portionof the upper or quarter. of the shoe is a.
series of guides, each formed of a piece of leather or similar material whih will hold its Shape. These guides are designated by the numeral 6 in the drawingr and they coinprise the upper portion connected by 'the downwardly extending side portions 7 and outwardly extending feet 8 which are eonnected in any suitable mannerI to the back The front portion of the upper or quarter. Any suitable number of these guides may he utilized, and while four are shown in the drawing, a greater number or in some eases, ,i smaller number of these guides may he suliicient.
portion 5 of the upper is provided with a series oi openings S) which coinA eide in position with the ruidos (.A
,rrstrap l() of a width to nicely pass through the guides o is connected at its lower end underneath the uieeting edge' of the vamp' and upper, said strap being slightly enlarged at this point. The opposite end of the strap is preferably provided with a tapering point 'l l to assist in threadingtlle strap through the guides 6.
In securing the shoe to the foot, the upper portion 5 is drawn over toward the hack and the guides 6 are inserted through the openings 9 in the Hap 5k and the leather tongue l() is then firsttl'ireaded through the lower guideand so on until it passes through the upper one. ln unfasteni'ngthe shoe, the finger may he inserted between the ,guides for pulling,- out the strap. This operation is quick and can hedone in the dark since theguides G may be threaded readily loy the pointed end of the tongue without requiring the use of the eyes. Y
Frein the foregoing it will be obvious that a shoe fasteningmade in accordance with this invention may he used at the instep in lieu oil innings, at the side in lieu of imttons or can even he need at the hach line ot' the quarter if desired.
Various elianges in the details of construction may he resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of' the invention rest on the quarter, means for securing the feet to the quarters and being so arranged that the side portions and upper portions muy extend through theopenngs of the upper, and zi strop approximately the width of the upper portions of the guides secured :it one end between the meeting edges of the vamp and quarter und adapted to be threadedthrough the guides und upper.
In testimony whereof I uix my signature in presence of two Witnegses.
LEO C. HARDEBECK.
Vitnesses LOUIS JACQUES, ALVIN BERRY.
