To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J osnrn ROSENBERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, county and York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Shower- Bath Fixtures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

This invention relates. more particularly to a class of devices adapted to be used by persons for bathing. purposes.

My invention has for its object prlmarily to provide a fixture designed to be utilized especially when a person is taking a bath be suspended so as to be disposed in a bath-tub to confine the flow of the water into ting the sheet to be neatly folded and swung clear of the tub when not in use, and which is also of a form'adapted to allow persons of various heights to conveniently take shower baths.

The invention consists essentially of a stationary support, or post projecting upwardly at preferably one side of the bath tub, and on this post is rotatably mounted a bracket from which the bath sheet is removably suspended The bracket is of a foldable form, and when in its normal position for use the sheet may be disposed interiorly parts of the bracket may be folded together for also. folding the sheet so that both the bracket and the sheet maybe swung clear of the tub. Also on the post is mounted a substantially semi-circular hollow pipe-like water distributer having perforationsin its inner periphery, and this distributer is adapted to be connected to-the faucet of the bath tub leading from the source of water supply whereby the bather may take 1 a shower bath.

Other objects of the invention are to provide means for adjustably connecting the water distributer to the post for permitting 'the distributer to be positioned at various elevations on the post whereby persons of different heights may convemently take-the.

shower as well as permitting the shower to flow on the body of the bather without wettingthe hair; and to provide a flexible tubular member for connecting the shower distributer to the water supply faucet.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevatlon, partly broken away, of a bath tub showing one form of device embodying my invention as used in conjunction therewith. Fig. 2 is a top plan of the foldable bracket and the semi-circular adjustable shower member of the device, the supporting member thereof being shown in cross-section. Fig. 3 is-a top plan of the bracket when folded, and Fig. 1 is an enlarged sectional view of the partsv of the device which serve as means for adjustably holding the shower member on the supporting post.

The device, or adjustable fixture has a support, or post 10 which is disposed upwardly from preferably the central part of one of the sides of a bath tub, as 11, having interiorly thereof a: faucet, as 12, leading from a source of water supply, and this post is suitably held so as to be stationary. The post 10 may be of any desired height, and on this post at an elevation abovethe bath tub is rotatably mounted a foldable bracket, as 13, of preferably a triangular shape. j

The bracket, 13 has a splitstrap, or sleeve 14 which is disposed on the post 10, and the parts of the split sleeve are fastened together .by screws .or otherwise so as to be revolubly movable on the post. To two spaced lugs on the front of the sleeve 1 1 are pivoted, at 15 and 16, one of the corresponding ends of two side arms 17' and 18 of the foldable bracket, and these arms are. adapt ed to be swung to and from each other above the bath tub transversely with respect to its open top. The transverse arms 20 and 22 are of sinular lengths, and the opposed ends of these arms are pivoted together, at 23. By forming the bracket 13 in this manner it will be triangular in shape when unfolded, as indicated in Fig. 2, and when the bracket is folded, as shown in Fig. 3, its transverse arms 20 and 22 will be moved inwardly between the side arms 17 and 18.

he sheet 25 may be of any desired material, and this sheet is of a length whereby it will extend some distance below the top of the bath tub. The sheet 25 is preferably formed in a shape to correspond with the triangular bracket so that when in use it may be disposed interiorly of the tub, in order to prevent water from flowing over the sides of the tub, and when the sheet is not in use it will be neatly folded simultaneously with the folding of the bracket- 13, as explained, after which the bracket may be swung on the post 10 so that the sheet 25 will be entirely clear of contact with the tub.

In order to permit persons of different heights to conveniently take a shower bath or to allow the bather to shower parts of the body without wetting the hair if desired, on the post 10 under the foldable bracket 13 is provided an adjustable hollow water dis tributer 26. The water distributer 26 is preferably of a pipelike form of substantially a semi-circular shape whereby it will encircle part of the'body of the bather when positioned between its arms, and the ends of this pipe-like distributer are closed. At spaced intervals through the inner part of the periphery of the distributer are perforati ons 27, and leading into the interior of the distributerv through an opening midway of the outer part of its periphery is a pipe 28.

The perforated pipelike distributer is somewhat less in size than the triangular foldable bracket 13, and the pipe 28 is of a length so that the distributer will be moved on a vertical plane interiorly of the bracket and the bathsheet 25 when the distributer is adjusted 011 the post 10. Serving as means for adjustably connecting the water distributer to the post 10, the end of the pipe 28 of the distributor proper is connected to a chamberedsupporting sleeve, or easing, as 29.

The supporting casing 29 has an outer wall 30 and an inner tubular wall 31 of less'diameter than the outer wall, and the upper and lower ends of the outer wall are inturned and soldered or otherwise connected to the inner wall to provide an annular water-tight chamber 32 in the casing. Projecting from part of the outer wall 30 of the casing is an apertured boss 33 in whic is held the pipe 28 of the Water dis tributer 26 so as to provide communication between thev chamber 32 and the interior of the distributer through the medium of the passage through this pipe. Also extending from another part of the outer wall of the casing 29 is a nipple 34-, and the passage through this nipple communicates with the chamber of the casing for serving as an inlet to admit water therein for delivery through the pipe 28 and into the interior of the distributer 26. The interior of the tubular wall 31 of the casing 29 is of a di ameter to permit the casing to be guided overthe post 10 so as to be movable thereon, and this inner wall as well as the outer wall of the casing are connected by a tube, as The passage through this tube 35 communicates with an opening in the tubular wall 31 and with an opening inthe outer wall 30 of the casing, and the interior surface of this tube is threaded for reception of a thumb screw 36 adapted to be rotated so as to engage and be disengaged with the post 10 for holding the casing 29 against move ment when the water distributer is adjusted at a suitable elevation.

In order to permit water to be delivered from the faucet 12 of the water supply system of the bath tub to the casing 29 and thence to the distributer 26, the faucet is connected to one end of a flexible tubular member, or pipe 37 having its other end connected to the nipple 34 of the chambered casing 29. The flexible pipe may be made of rubber, or any other suitable material, and this pipe may be of a length to allow the water distributer 26 to be adjusted on the post 10 at a desired height either upwardly or downwardly. When a shower bath is taken by a person, the bracket 13 is swung on the post 10 to a position over the open top of the bath tub, and by unfolding the bracket, as above described,the sheet 25 may be disposed so that its lower end portion will be interiorly of the tub. The dis tributer 26 is then adjusted to a desired height on the post 10 after loosening and tightening the thumb screw 36. By letting the water flow from the faucet of the bath tub it will pass through the flexible pipe 37, through the chamber 32 of the casing 29, through the pipe 28, into the distributer 26 from which the water will be delivered in the form of a shower through its perforations 27, and the bather may then allow the shower of water to flow'on any part of the body.

In the foregoing description, I have em bodied the preferred form of my invention, but I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto as I am aware that modifications may 'be made therein without departing from the principle, or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, therefore I reserve to myself the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a shower bath fixture for tubs, a stationary support adjacent to the tub, a substantially semi-circular hollow distributer of a pipe-like form having perforations on its inner periphery, a water-tight supporting casing on the distributer, formed with an outer wall and an inner wall spaced from the outer wall to provide a chamber, the said casing having an inlet for reception of water and having an outlet leading into the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cent Washing interior of the distributer, and the inner wall of the casing being adjustably mounted on the support so that the distributer inay be elevated to various heights over the open top of the tub, and a flexible tubular member leading from a source of water supply to the inlet of the casing for the delivery of water to the distributerwhereby a person may take a shower bath.
