DEVICE FOR MANICURING AND PURPOSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application' ieajrebi-uar'y 1,1916".v seriain. 75,556.
To aZZ 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELIAs 'Buneannnisnir a citizen ofthe UnitedStates, residing at 1061 F ifty-sixth` street, yborough ,ofV Brook-y lyn, county `of Kings, State ofNew York,
yhave invented rcertain new and usefullmproveniente in Devices for hlanicuring and other Purposes, of which the following isa specification.y y y j vrllhis invention relates to devices for mani-` curing and other purposes and has for some of its `objects to provide fan efficient and substantial means,' whereby the cutting,` trim# ining,'paring, shaping or otherwise treatingl of nails, corns, or other substances,y may be accomplished in'k a rapid and careful manner, and comprises the combination of cooperating members and arrangement of parts whereby new `and useful results are obtained or secured, and whereby the purchase of the ja-w actuating kmember may be rincreased ordecreased and the cutting bite more positively controlled and cutting more perfectly performed regardless of the varying hardness of thefsubstanceto'be cut, and
whereby the scope and tension of the cutting jaws may be regulated in yaccordance with the l selective character' yof the material or substance to be treatedg'whether it beskin or nails to be shaped, trimmed, or formed, and with these and other objects in view the invention in one ofits forms is illustrated the accompanying drawing'to which atten` tion is directed in which;
Figure lis aplan view, 2 is a plany j view with theslieath for nail cleaning inember withdrawn, Fig. omis a side elevation,
F ig. 4C is a cross section of the devicey opened and shown as in normal use, and Fig. 5 is a5 similar view showing'the augmenting means for increasing/theleverage on the cutting jaws in positionand increase or* decrease of purchase ofthe cam on the movable jaw j bearing or carrier. j j j j ,j
Similar numerals of yr ference indicate corresponding parts in the various views.l
Referring to the various views the nu meral 20indicates a rbase provided with a fixed jaw 21 at one terminus thereof, the base 2O being provided Awith the, angularly disposed members 22 and 28-pr`oviding a guide way for the movable or slidable means 24 for altering the cambearmg so as to increase the bite of the movable jaw, which forms a terminus ofthe spring member 7 which is secured to thevbase 20 bytherivet't.y

' which slides on. the pin member 10 soy that its is also provided at its outer end with they parallel channels 18 for the purpose of providing a means forreadily sliding Vor openingy and closing thesame by means of the linger nail. The lever 13 4is provided with a pivot bearing 15 which secures it in a mov- A 'able position to the angular side projections 22 and 23, extending from the base 20, the
piv'oted end being provided with the pressure cam 16 adaptedto engage the spring member' 7 and depress the same when pressure is applied to the lever 13.1 The increase in leverage when desired is augmented by pushing forward 'the member 2t until. the 'wedge member 11 resides at a point which will be engaged by the cam member 1G as' shown in Fig', thereby altering and increasing lthe vforce of* the bite of the jaws 21 yand '6' ywhen brought into co-action. `'The acting means and arrangement of parts provides a device of superior compactnessland utility both as an article Aof manufacture, and as ameans of simplicity for the cof-action and cooperation of the various elements or members, and whereby a new `and useful result"v including means for adjustment or in-.iy crease or decrease of the bite cutting or tr1m- `m1ng member may be controlled and regulated at will with reference to the particuf lar character of the substance to be acted upon.
T he combination of parts and coi-action of members being so arranged as to present y'the ycombination inits most sanitary character whereby the parts are maintained in a clean y and germicidal vcondition through the freey cirf'zulation of air to all the parts without interruption by reason of its open character of arrangement and whereby it may be readily cleaned and dried without fear of,Y
rust `or disarrangement .of parts. Y
In the employment of the device the sheath 12 is first withdrawn by means of the pressure of a finger. nail engaging Ythe channels 18, upon the withdrawal of which the lever 13 is thrown up by action. of the spring member 7 and may be thrown back entirely or extended in a direction 'forward of the cutting jaws 21 and 6 when it is deis pressed or pushed forward together with,
its member 24 until it rests in a position as showny in Fig. L5 whereby the inner end or wedge member 1l of the member 24 is forced Yin a position underthe inner end of the cam 16 sov that upon depressingthe lever 13 a superior purchase and pressure upon theV spring member 7 is exerted and the cutting jaws 21 and ,6 brought into closerco-acting relation resulting ina sharper andgreater biting or cuttingucapacityn.
In Fig. .1 thedevice is shown in yits closed position, whilein F ig.2 it is shown with the sheathwithdrawnas it would appear in the Vsectional view Fig. 4.
Itisobvious that vthe shape and construction of the various members may be of any selective form or character,` and thatv the material of which it is constrnctedmay 4be Of any. selective kind, without.A departing from the spirit ofthe invention, so long as the Yintegrity ofthe kcombination Y and the arrangement of parts arev such as to covery and produce they desired result.
