UNITED STA FRANK H. FRY, OF STILTNER, WEST VIRGINIA.
DINING-TABLE.
` Stiltner, in the county of Wayne and State of West Virginia, have invented anew and useful Dining-Table; and I do hereby declare the following to be "a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others Skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved dining table, and an object of the invention is to provide an extensible table provided with a revolving center piece, designed to be rotated by the persons at the table, sok that articles on one side of the center piece may be reached by persons on the opposite side.
Another object of the invention is to provide a revolving center piece having radial sliding drawers to contain napkins and the like, and various eating utensils.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the limproved table con structed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view partly broken away and in section, showing the radial sliding drawers of the center piece. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a plan view showing the table extended, and the revolving center piece removed. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view in section of the ball bearing and the attending parts of the revolving center piece. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6 6 of Fig. 4.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates the central column or standard of the table having the usual legs 2. Arranged on the upper end of the column is a plate 5 having central annular depressions 6. plate 5 have elongated tongues 7, to enter the grooves 8 upon the adjacent faces of the slide bars 9 of the extension section 10 of the table, so that when the extension section 10 of the table is extended as shown in Fig. 4, the tongues 7 will slide in said grooves 8. Upon the outer faces of the bars 9 are grooves'll, to receive the elongated tongue 12 of the bars 13 of the extension section 14 of the table, so that the extension section Specicaton of Letters Patent.

may be extended slidably. Secured in the central annular depression 6 of the plate 5, by means of screws 15 is a metal plate 16 having a raceway 17 for the ball bearing 18. The metal plate 16 and the wood plate 5 are provided with central registering aper` tures or openings 19 and 20, to receive a pivot pin 21 of the plate 22, which is secured by screws 23 to the lower part 24 of the revoluble center piece 26 ofthe table, so that the center piece may revolve. Therefore, owing to the plate 5 resting upon the upper end of the central column l, and being that the pivot pin 21 (which is carried by the plate 22, which in turn is secured to the center piece 26) extends through the metal plate 16 and through the plate 5 and into the column, the table sections will rotate independently of the center piece and vice versa. The annular plate 22 has a raceway 27 to receive the ball bearings 18, so that the center piece may revolve easily and with minimum friction. T he center piece has an upper portion 28, and secured between the upper and lower portions 24 and 28 of the center piece are divisional plates 29, forming compartments 30, for the reception of the drawers 31, which are slidable radially, which drawers are designed to carry napkins and the like, and various eating utensils.
The various plates opposite the persons eating at this improved dining table are supported upon the extensible sections 10 and 14, whereas the various articles of food are designed to rest upon the revolving cen ter piece, that is, upon the upper part 28 thereof. 1When a person at one side of the table wishes an article of food upon the opposite side of the revoluble center piece, the center piece is merely turned or revolved, until the desired article of food is opposite the person wishing the same. The bars 9 of the extension section 10 are braced by the transverse piece 33, whereas the bars 13 of the extensible section 14 are braced by the angular pieces 34.
It will be observed that the extension pieces or sections 10 and 14 may be extended to any length desired, and suitable extension boards such as shown at 35 may be inserted between the extension section, and held in the usual manner by the dowel pins 36.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. In combination, a standard or column having transverse wood plate arranged thereon, said' wood plate being provided with an annular depression, annular'pla't'e having a raceway on its upper surface and provided with a central aperture secured in said depression, said transverse woodplater having a central opening, a pair of extensi-- ble table sections' having slidable connections consisting of tongue and groove bars, the bars of one table section having tongue and groove connections with the` lopposite. endsof-the transverse wood plate,- .far'evolu-v ble center piece having aneannularplate vprovice versa, said lannular plate and the center piece having a rac'e'waygand-` antifric'tional members in-said racewaysi 2. In combinatlon, a standard or column, a lrev'oluble centerv piece having' pivotalv connections withth'e upp'erendv of the column, a transverse bar held on the upper end of the column byI the pivotal connections, a pair of extensible table sections mounted uponsaid bar below and adjacent the under face of the center piece, whereby said sections may be rotated as one body whether they. are extended or closed, the central portions of the adjacent edges of the sections having recesses to rreceive a part ofv said pivotal connections when the sections "are closed-,g` the adjacent edgesl of the table section-s-y adapted to receivey insert extension members, when the sections` are extended.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification-in the presence vof two subscribing witnesses.
