Description

UNITED STATES PATENT oE IoE.
JOSEPH GRAS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TABLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPI-I GRAS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in foldable tables, and has for its object to provide a table having trays or the like foldable from an upward position to a horizontal position, and trays or receptacles also foldable from an upward position between the first named trays to a horizontal position, whereby the trays may be folded in compact relation at the end of the table leg or support and may be folded outwardly in position for use.
My invention also comprises novel details of improvement and combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein,
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved table showing the trays opened out ready for use, the center receptacle being shown in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a partly sectional side view of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the table folded.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 indicates a support or post of the table, which may have legs 2 in foldable tripod form, or any other suitable means for maintaining support 1 upon the floor. At the upper end of support 1 is a head 3 which may be in the form of a casting suitably attached to support or post 1. In the example illustrated head 3 is provided with a socket 3 receiving support or post 1 that is held to the former by set screw 4.
At 5 are trays or plates pivotally supported upon head 3, as at 6, said trays or plates being shown disposed at diametrically opposite sides of said head so as to fold upwardly in parallel spaced relation, as in Fig. 3, and to fold downwardly as in Fig. 2 into a horizontal position.
At 7 are trays or receptacles pivotally carried by head 3 and adapted to extend outwardly in horizontal position between trays or plates 5 and to be folded upwardly between the trays or plates 5 as in Fig. 3.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application fi1ed November 16, 1911.
Patented Apr. 30, 1912.
Serial No. 660,575.
The trays or receptacles 7 are pivotally connected with head 3, at 6*. In the example illustrated the trays or plates 5 and 7 are respectively provided with arms 5, 7 that enter recesses 8 in head 3 receiving the pivots 6, 6 in the nature of rule oints, whereby when the trays or plates are extended outwardly they are supported in horizontal positions by such joints. The trays or receptacles 7 are shown relatively deep to conveniently hold and retain drinking glasses, while the trays or plates 5 may be relatively shallow to hold other articles. Upon head 3 may be placed a receptacle or tray 9 in such position that the arms 5, 7 may fold upwardly, as in Fig. 3. While I have shown two opposed trays 7 foldable between the trays 3, it is evident that one tray 7 may be used, if desired, arranged as shown.
When my improvements are out of use, or to be stored or transported, the trays or receptacles 7 are folded upwardly toward each other and the trays or plates 5 are then folded toward each other outside of the trays or receptacles 7 (Fig. 3), and, as shown, since the trays or receptacles 7 are smaller than the trays or plates 5, the former will fit snugly between the latter when they are all folded as in Fig. 3. When the table is to be used the plates or trays 5 are swung downwardly, and then the trays or receptacles 7 are also swung downwardly, in positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
A table constructed according to my invention is light in weight and simple in operation and may be readily moved from place to place, such as to be placed adjacent a table where cards are being played in position convenient to the players.
Having now described my invention what I claim is 1. In a table of the foldable type, a head, means for supporting the head, arms pivoted to the edges of the head and adapted to be swung from a horizontal to a'vertical position, opposed arms carrying trays at their outer portions, one tray being of less diameter than two opposed trays, the smaller tray being adapted to fit between the two opposed trays when the trays and arms are in a vertical position.
2. In a table of the foldable type, a head, means for supporting the head, arms pivoted to the edges of the head and adapted to be swung from a horizontal to a vertical position, opposed arms carrying trays at their outer portions, one tray being of less Signed at- New York city, in the county diameter than the two opposed trays, the of New York and State of New York this smaller tray being adapted to fit between 14th clay of November, A. D. 1911.
the two opposed trays when the trays and. JOSEPH GRAS. 5 arms are in a vertical position, the smaller WVitnesses:
tray acting as a stop for the larger trays F. V. SEYBoL'r,
when extending between the latter. W. H. RAYBURN.
